It is mostly uphill switch backs for 2.85 miles to the top. There is an additional 1 mile trail from the top to go down to the fatality site of the fire fighters. You will have to hike back up to the top and go down from there so it will actually add 2 miles round trip if you decide to go the extra mile but it is worth it.
