We camped here overnight during a cross-country tent camping trip. There are a large number of campsites here; and the sites are indeed nice. Paved roads and places to back your vehicle into each site is nice, along with good burn rings and tables. Some of the sites are a bit too small however, and they are all right next to each other unfortunately. The main bathroom facilities are very nice and well-kept (as with the campsites themselves), but there aren't many bathroom facilities located around the park. The reason for the 2-star review however is due to the experience we had with the campground host.......
We arrived late around 9 pm and set up our camp. There was no pay area to register or deposit our camping fee into, so we set up camp and decided we would pay in the morning before we left as I didn't want to bother the host so late, (as we have done before a few times when no after-hours pay stations were available at other campgrounds across the US). Around 10 pm we had the campground host drive to our site and, in a very aggressive and disrespectful manner, accuse us basically of trying to camp for free with not registering with them. He then told me to come up to the registration office immediately and sped away.
I came up to the office and he and his wife were there. His wife was courteous as I pleaded my case, but he still seemed defiant. He continued by saying that we had chosen a campsite that was reserved for the next day, and he didn't want me there. I told him we would be out of the campground in the morning, LONG before our checkout time and the reservation check-in for the next day. I also told him that we were only trying to be curteous to them by not bothering them, as I stated that we had been camping across the US and that we indeed have never skipped out on not paying for our campsite. They registered me and I paid on the spot; however the experience really pissed us off and if he hadn't been so aggressive and blaming of us I would have had nothing but good things to say about this place.
Unfortunately, the man who was the campground host there on 10/10/18 was very un-professional to me especially. I'm not one pick a fight, but I literally felt threatened by this guy and I felt if my cooler head wouldn't have prevailed this guy would have been laying on the ground by his choice of being so aggressive to us.
Due to this issue, we will absolutely never camp here again. I would recommend that they also come up with a better system for letting after-hours campers pay for their stay rather than being accused of trying to get a free campsite. Many other state parks allow a drop-box and it works...
Read moreVery nice campground. We had a fifth wheel camper and had plenty of room to drive in and back it in the camp site. The campground was very clean and well kept. Loved having the shower house as an option sine we didn’t have full hook-ups. There is a nice paved walking trail and plenty of campsites available for different campers, RVs or tents. The camp hosts were polite and helpful. The only drawback was no communication about the front gate into and out of the camp ground. It does state on the web site that the gates are closed from 9 pm to 7 am. But not information given if you need to leave before 7 am. We needed to be somewhere by 7 am and needed to leave before then. If someone hadn’t come along that had stayed there before, we wouldn’t have know to just drive slowly up to the gate and it would automatically open when you got so close to the motion sensor. This isn’t stated anywhere on the website. But other than that little problem, we have no complaints. We really enjoyed the visitor center and the exhibit and information about the...
Read moreThis is such a gorgeous state park. My husband and I are from Oklahoma and scheduled our first vacation to line up with the total solar eclipse. My husband was so excited to experience this. After some research, I found the park was hosting an event. They had activities, a food truck, and sold solar eclipse glasses for those of us who came unprepared (like me). All the park rangers were friendly and helpful. They even rode around in a golf cart checking on people since the weather was quite sunny and warm. You could tell this event was very well organized. It took a lot of the stress and worry out for us, especially since we have never been there before. We had fantastic front row seats to an amazing celestial event. I am so happy we chose to Babler Memorial State Park. If we ever go that way again, we will definitely make...
