It feels remote but it's relatively close to St Louis. From the park entrance back to the campground it actually takes 5 minutes if you obey the speed limit. It's a big park!
The little hills into the campground from the main park area are a little steep, but we managed fine except for the last day when we were leaving and had to stop halfway up for some deer to cross. It took a bit of engine revving to finish the hill climb from a dead stop on the hill.
50/30/20 power pedestals at the sites. No water or sewer.
Unfortunately we could only reserve 1 night in the same site. We found 2 sites across from each other (41 and 48) so we had to do a switcharoo the 2nd day. Not a big deal since the other campers were in a tent and left early.
One night we paid $27, the other night was $34. Not sure why one night charged a website fee and the other one didn't since they were both weekdays.
The showers were adequate. A bit dated, but the water pressure was amazing and it was endless warm water.
It looks like they are expanding the campground, possibly with full hookup sites as we can see water and sewer pipe...
Read moreThere is a semi steep downhill/uphill to get into the campground. The camp is set up for smaller rigs, but we made it work with our 29 foot trailer. 40 minute drive to the city. Country feel in the campground. My biggest complaint is that they cut down all the shade trees near the campsites. The online pictures and our previous camping here made me think the site would be in the shade and when we arrived all the trees near those sites were just stumps. So it was pretty hot baking in the sun. The hosts were not very friendly, they waved once but we never talked with them. The showers are a bit outdated, but they work. The one hole bathroom was pretty bad and I wouldn't want to have it be my only bathroom. Luckily we have a bathroom in our trailer. No water at the sites, several spigots to fill with spread throughout the camp. Keep your trash put away, lots of raccoons at night looking for a meal. Weak Verizon phone service, I had to set up our weBoost to allow my...
Read moreBeautiful State Park Campground. Very quiet, nice staff. Camped there last in our 34' 5th Wheel, but they have tent-camping as well. Electric-only sites, but there's a water station as soon as you pass the check-in building, and community water faucets scattered throughout the campground. There's an easy-to-access dump station on your way out. Bath house seemed clean, bathrooms are ok. Hiking trails nearby, and you're not too far out in the boonies so you still have access to civilization ... maybe a 10min drive. NOTE: If coming from the north via Hwy64 do not take Olive Street to N Eatherton Rd to State 109 as there is a steep/narrow/dangerous road up to 109. Instead take Long Road to Wild Horse Creek Road to State 109. And if heading back north to Hwy 64 get onto State 109 at the southern end of Babler Park Drive ......
