Like other rail trails, this was a very level travel surface. Most of the 4.5 mile section that we covered was paved, with the remainder being gravel. The entire section had a mowed grass pathway for horses.
The trail was very well maintained, and someone had recently planted native trees all along the river adjacent to the trail.
There were ruins of old canal infrastructure in many places, usually with explanatory signs, as well as mile markers along the way.
