Nice park overlooking the Delaware river. Natural beauty, birds and vegetation. You'd probably enjoy it more in the warmer season, although, when it's very cold out snowy, the river offers a lovely view. The park features picnic tables, ample parking, bathrooms and elaborate children playground. There is a path along the river with a few lookout points, each with information about the river's vegetation and wild life, the Delaware river itself, and the history of the river area.
Entrance fee to the park is the same as in other Delaware state parks. After November 30 entrance is free. The park closes at sundown. (4:55pm as of the writing of this review.) If you have a seasonal path for Delaware state parks, it is applicable here too.
The problems with this park are many. To start with, access to the park is tricky, neglected and unsafe. Generally the entire Delaware river shore on the Delaware side is dirty and neglected. The presence of industry, freight train etc is everywhere. What a loss.
Looking across the river to the Jersey side, one can see mostly pretty residential neighborhoods.
The area along the Delaware river could have been a beautiful location for tourism and entertainment, had it been developed. There could have been boardwalks, restaurants bars, entertainment, clubs, parks river boats, and other outdoors attractions.
As of now, all that we have is this park. It's far from ideal, but better...
Read moreStopped here for some geocaching and even though only able to grab 1 out of the 4 there, battle the heat, able still capture some beautiful pictures. Large ships coming and going from Marcus Hook area, small waves breaking up on the sands beyond the fence (no access to the sand, off limits and restrictions in place)
Tried today 8/14/21 but pay at the booth instead of envelopes Associate working booth. Looks to be a family reunion or gathering rented out both pavilions and have games and inflatables. Parking still available and hopes that all out there spending time with family and friends enjoys there time. Finds ways to battle this heat. I chose not to stay but since paying I'm valid all day to enter and exit as I please.
Be back to avenge my geocaches I couldn't find. Overall very quaint and quiet park. Awesome for little ones if they enjoy trains because Amtrak line is there between park and the highway 495. Acela Amtrak trains race on by and...
Read moreFive stars? Really? I know that's what you're thinking. This is not a comparison to other state parks, it is a review of what FPP is and does. It's small, to say the least. It's not a sexy park with magnificent views. But, for what and where it is, it is the best.
I have been there often, and, I hesitate to give this away, it is always quiet. On a sunny day with blue skies, you can enjoy a peaceful walk or refreshing run along the river on the FPP path. Sea birds, snakes and even bald eagles are commonly sighted - by me, I've seen them all myself on multiple occasions.
For me, FPP is a nice treat. The blacktop trail is short, but people ride bikes. I prefer to walk or run a few loops on the gentle sloping paths.
The park is well kept and even when they are having family picnics at the reservable pavilions, the park is open enough to still be peaceful. If you're looking for excitement or challenging trails,...
