Read moreLet me preface by saying that no matter what I say about the Estate, it would not do the experience of visiting justice. This is an outstanding experience! We were visiting Wilmington, and there are a number of estates/houses to visit. We only had time for one, so I picked Nemours, based on pics, reviews and generally what there is to see. Wow! I definitely made the right call. We started with the shuttle tour; included in price. It is about a half-hour and takes you around the perimeter of the estate, and gives a nice overview. The shuttle driver gave a lot of historical info and tidbits. Really helps orient you to the layout. Needed, because this place is huge! Next we walked around the gardens. Very beautiful. The sunken garden was closed and being redone while we were there. But there are so many other gardens and grounds to see, that it really didn't affect us. The plant variety and architectural features really make this a stunning place. It was very hot and humid the day we went, and the Estate has free, cold bottled water at many locations around the grounds. That was a life saver! The house itself is magnificent. You walk around at your own pace, with 3 floors open to view. You can go in almost all the rooms, although I think the servants rooms weren't visible. The docents are so incredibly knowledgeable. They know everything about the house and the DuPont family. The breadth of information was amazing. And everyone is so friendly and helpful. We were there about 5 hours, and still didn't see everything on the grounds there is to see. This was the favorite experience of the trip for everybody in my family. I absolutely recommend...
Read moreHorrible first experience here. While it is listed on the website last entry is at 4 pm, it is not listed on the google places page, which leads to enormous confusion. We arrived at 4:06 pm (there were no visible signs indicating last entry time) and was immediate notified that "We are closed". There were severeal other visitors there as well that were also confused and unaware of the last admission time. Susan, the associate at the check in counter, was rude, unaccommodating, verbal hostile and intentionally violated my personal space. I kindly asked her if she make an exception since we were just 6 minutes late. She said "Sorry but we are very strict here, no exceptions". I asked to speak to her manager on the phone and he said he would "happily make an exception for us to walk the grounds". While I was speaking to the manager, she shoved her phone in my face and kept repeating "Last admission at 4pm" at least five times. She then intentionally mispronounced my name, was passive aggressive and constantly violated my personal space. I will also be filing a BBB compliant. DO NOT VISIT. Please, go to Longwood Gardens instead. They will let you in all the way up to closing, even with a timed ticket.
Update: While I do appreciate the response, the 4pm last admission time is listed at the very bottom of the about page. It should be listed at the very top. As if you do not tap the more button, you can very easily miss it. There were about 5 other guests that arrived right at 4 that also were very confused...
