Outlive Your Husband and Get a Mansion All to Yourself 😏💎
Stopped by this stunning estate on our way to DC – and wow, it’s mind-blowing to see how the ultra-rich lived a century ago! 💰✨ Built by Mr. du Pont for his second wife… who unfortunately passed away soon after. He then married a third wife, who lived here until – plot twist – she outlived him and enjoyed the mansion all by herself for 50 years! 🕰️👑 The mansion’s basement, first, and second floors are open for tours. The guides – many sweet elderly volunteers – are super knowledgeable and love to chat! 🧓📖 The info plaques in each room are written in such an engaging way that even a 7- or 8-year-old can read and understand them. 👧📚 Only downside: the fountains weren’t filled yet – they’re usually turned on around Mother’s Day. Once filled, the grand fountain area becomes absolutely breathtaking! ⛲💦 Check the last slide for pricing. Compared to the huge (and pricey!) Longwood Gardens, this place feels more intimate, beautifully curated, and family-friendly – plus, their family package is reasonably priced! Grab a few activity worksheets for the kids at the entrance (like leaf hunts or treasure searches) – they’ll be happily busy for 2–3 hours! 🍃🔍 #DMV #DMVFood #WashingtonDC #DCCherryBlossomSeason #PhiladelphiaDayTrip #HistoricEstate #DuPontLegacy #MansionGoals #FamilyFriendlyOutings #EstateTours #GardenWalks #RichHistory #LuxuryLifestyle #OutliveAndOutplay #TravelWithKids #HiddenGems #EastCoastElegance #PhotoHeaven #SpringOutings #WanderlustVibes
