This past Sunday I came to town to see my parents who suggested we see a play. I'm glad we did. This show is not new to me. I saw it on Broandway last year with Liev Schrieber and Amy Ryan, and several other times including a professional production at Triad Stage. This version profoundly exceeded my expectations. Other than the broadway version, this was my favorite. In some ways, I liked this one just as much. First off, the acting! Where did you find these people? This did not feel like community theatre. It felt like a master class of seasoned professionals. Everyone was brilliant. There was not a single average actor in the show. The scenes with Father Flynn and Sister Aloysious were especially nuanced, rich, mezmerizing and had me rethinking all my previous notions of the play. The direction was excellent. This is especially impressive considering the budget, size and simplicity of the theatre. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, something was said or someone gave a look throwing me yet again in "Doubt". Overall, this is easily one of the best shows I've seen outside of New York in a very long time. This production is a rare gem. I hope to see more from Stained Glass Playhouse...
