I love this place and it holds a special place in my heart. My family were raised a short distance from the park and I grew up hiking with my parents in the area where the trails are at. I took a friend of mine that had no idea what this was. Everyone that was at the park seemed to be having a good time on this day and a ice cream truck even came through the area. I personally did not notice any graffiti, but have heard it mentioned. I did come here within a month of the opening and honestly do not understand all of the RUST in the building of this for how much $$$$$$$$$$ was used to build it. My friend said the toilets had had a ton of TP stuffed in one to cause flooding in the restroom. Dirt and derby on the steps. We understand it's outdoors, but it seems like it was built with cheaper intent for long term and very little to no maintenance to keep things running smoothly. With all of the chatter about unfortunate events, graffiti, restrooms being a mess, etc, it looks like the city of WS would do something more to maintain this park for people to enjoy safely. There weren't many people here on the day we came, which was a really beautiful day. A couple of people we overheard talking about gang activity and violent crime in the park. A few days afterwards my friend read that authorities were looking for a body also. I love what the city does to try to create a place for people to enjoy, but how about maintaining it and other parks. The city has spent so much money to create things like this then they just walk away from making sure it's safe and enjoyable. I'm not sure if there are cameras, but that may need to be put into place to help protect the park and have police or ground maintenance people around to assure it's a nice safe place. Parking ... Couldn't park in two spots due to all the broken bottles. Glass and broken bottles on the pavement near the overlook. A park, just like any business can not open, run, and last long term if you just walk away after opening it and let it maintain itself. Love the place just wish it was not becoming a topic of unsafe and...

We took two of our grandkids to this park last weekend when we were in Winston-Salem, NC. It is a really nice and well maintained park. I'm sure it is utilized by local residents quite a bit. If you're ever in the area it's worth the stop I'd nothing more than to the giant lake created by the hole made by the quarry company.

This lake created by the quarry is 12-acre in size and is estimated to beĀ more than 200 feetĀ deep in some areas.

The park's focal point is the steel overlook pier that extends over the eastern side of the quarry, offering views of the deep blue waters of the old quarry that gives the park its name. The city skyline of WS can be seen in the distance. The park also has several other minor overlooks offering different perspectives on the old quarry.

The quarry was operated as Piedmont Quarry from the mid-1920s until the early 1970s. When work stopped the quarry slowly filled with water, though high cliffs still ring the site. Vulcan Materials donated the land to the...
