The dells is derived from the French dalles, which is what the early French explorers called the area. The area has gone from a sleepy little nature attraction to a modern day resort area destination with multiple indoor and outdoor waterparks. The fun does not stop there. There are fantastic minature golf courses and even more fantastic spa opportunities. No trip to the dells can ever be complete without a ride on the ducks. These converted world war two amphibious landing assault vehicles are a perfect way to tour the area. The downtown area is chock a block with fun stores and bars. Nearby you can go to the Ho-Chunk casino and try your hand at any number of gambling games. If you get the chance to marvel at the Tommy Bartlet ski and sky show try to imagine when the whole lake burst it's earthen dam and emptied into the Wisconsin River taking houses with it. My wife swears by the chile rellenos at Mexicalli Rose where the margaritas are as great as the view of Wisconsin River hydroelectric dam. Below the dam is famous for it's walleye fishing!
