Urban Mechanical NJ — Attraction in Woodland Park

I contacted Urban Mechanical via Yelp to see if I could get a technician to do a maintenance check on my central air A/C. It has been five years since any technician looked at it. While it is currently running (knock on wood), a guest recently remarked that the filter on my external fan unit looked dirty and that you're supposed to get annual maintenance on these units.

As part of the Yelp message process, I left my contact information and provided two photos. Eventually, Urban Mechanical sent a message via Yelp to contact them via phone. I called by phone and spoke to the owner, Hector. He looked at my Yelp information and confirmed my request. He then told me that he had a 4-week backlog of appointments and apologized that he didn't have time at the moment to service my request. He said that if I texted him my contact info directly, he would reach out to me if there were any cancellations in the next 4 weeks.

Although Urban Mechanical didn't have any appointment openings to service my request, I appreciate their transparency instead of just ghosting me. If they can be transparent about their scheduling, I am confident that they will be transparent about their work.

EDIT: I received a call from Miguel a few days later that a cancellation happened -- he actually followed up, which doesn't always happen with other vendors. He came over at the appointed time. He had shoe covers to prevent tracking stuff indoors from his work boots!

He did the inspection of the interior and exterior unit and cleaning. Miguel explained to me what he was doing and why and had no problems whatsoever in answering my questions. (I was like a kid asking "obvious" questions, but I really didn't know much about the AC system -- that exterior unit "filter" I described earlier was actually a coil.).

Miguel was very thorough with the cleaning. The exterior unit was really dirty and he had heavy duty cleaner fluid and attached the bottle to my lawn hose and washed down the unit. Then, he dried it up with his towel.

Miguel did find some potential mildew/mold build up, but this required installing a UV light, which was not covered in this service/inspection call (which is fine). He would prepare a proposal with several options to address that.

In conclusion, Urban Mechanical has excellent customer service and does thorough work, so they deserve this...

Urban Mechanical in my opinion has been the most knowledgeable and professional HVAC contractor that I've ever worked with!

I own several properties and I have dealt with a multitude of contractors and have always been weary of dealing with a new Tradesman. But Miguel from Urban Mechanical restored my faith in what a true HVAC professional is supposed to be! First of all upon meeting him I found him to be quite pleasant to deal with and very personable. He quickly got to work diagnosing one of my tenant's air-conditioning system. It literally took him 25 minutes to figure out what was going on. Unfortunately, the system had a bad compressor and it had to be replaced. Miguel made a few phone calls to try to source the compressor and quickly found the replacement. He quoted me the repair cost, which was a flat-rate which included parts and labor. And his explanation of what was to be done was clear and to point. So after agreeing to his price for the job, he assured me that he will return the next day to complete the compressor replacement. And to his word, he arrived back to my building the next day. Where he completed the work in the time that he said he would, and even clean the condenser coil as a courtesy.

To say that Miguel went above and beyond would be an understatement. Not only did he replaced the compressor, and clean the condenser coil. He even performed an entire maintenance on the air conditioning system. He did this to make sure that everything was working properly and that the system was running at its peak performance. I truly have not met a HVAC contractor that does anything for free let alone take their time and work with the upmost pride and professionalism. This is what differentiates Miguel from the rest! He is thorough with his diagnosis, fair with the pricing, and even provided valuable insight on how to avoid this type of situation from ever happening again. So if you're looking for an HVAC professional that takes pride and what he does Miguel from Urban Mechanical is your man! I highly recommend his services and would definitely be using him for all my HVAC repairs and preventive maintenance needs at all...

We found Miguel based on high recommendations online and he did not disappoint. We were looking to have A/C installed in our house. Miguel has endless energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge about his work. He visited several times before work started to discuss every possible option we could take considering everything from energy costs, efficiency, future work on our house, plumbing, alternatives, etc. He was patient throughout our considerations, but once we picked a plan, he went to work immediately. Miguel followed all safety protocols, wore a mask indoors, covered his shoes, and cleaned up after himself. He stopped by many times to update us on his progress and inform us of what he would be doing next. He explained what he was doing every step of the way. He was friendly to my family as he worked and always considered when or if he would be in our way while working. Since he spent so much time at our house on this project, he also helped provide information on any other issues he ran into as he worked. One example is he helped me clear our dryer vent when he saw that link was building up on the outside trap door. Since his work has been completed, he periodically checks our satisfaction with his work, reminds us of any maintenance that needs to be done, and makes sure all units are functioning as they should.
