There are several trails that are easy to navigate. Good for older folks who aren't quite as mobile as they used to be, or for people who aren't into a strenuous hike. It's a fairly level gentle easy trail to walk. It's so quiet out there. The only thing I heard was the sound of the old windmill slowly spinning and the gentle breeze. It's so beautiful out there. There is a good variety of plants that grow out there. It's peaceful and very calming! Not a ton of people were there. And yes they do have 2 port-a-pottys. But bring your own water. I'm sure during the day it can get really hot. They even have a rattle snake warning sign. But we went in tbe cool of the evening. It was perfect. My dog, they must be on leash and please pick up after them, it's a beautiful clean trail let's keep it that way! But my dog had a blast! So much for him to sniff and explore. The park opens 1 hour believe it said one hour before sunrise and closes at sunset. I will be back for another great walk with nature. It is beautiful. Go experience it for yourself! Bikes welcome, horses welcome, hikers, walkers, joggers, kids, and dogs all welcome! Have fun! Remember the rule pack in pack out always. And right now, july 2024 high fire danger! Don't throw your ciggs on the ground. Put them out with your shoe, completely out, and put the filter back in your pocket! You want to keep the park just the way you found it! Thank you so much...
Read moreToday, I hiked the 3.2 mile Juniper Loop. It is a moderately difficult trail through open spaces, junipers, evergreens, and scrub oaks with spectacular views of the foothills and red rock and sandstone formations. The trail can be used for hiking, jogging, horseback riding, and mountain biking. UPDATE... Today, I hiked another trail: an out-and-back from the parking lot to the Sandstone Ranch Overlook -- probably a little over four miles. Like the Juniper Loop, this trail is suitable for hiking, jogging, horseback riding, and mountain biking. I learned from a open space volunteer that prior to Douglas County acquiring the property it was slated for housing development: five-acre lots geared for equestrians. The county continues to operate the ranch and runs the cattle that can be seen along portions of the trail. I am looking forward to hiking here during all...
Read moreThis space is just serene. Huge gravel parking lot which has never been even half full when we are there. Porta potties near parking lot. Trail markers tell you how far to the next landmark. One to two plus mile trails make walking available for all. Choose to go left from parking lot with several trails branching off. Share the path with horses which is fun. These trails are rolling hills, not rigorous, but beautiful views. Choose to go right from parking lot and the trail is gradual uphill, with more rocky path at some points. Open space has rock formations, ponds, ranch, and most of all -...
