For a place to hike to, icehouse saddle gives you lots of options to go bag some peaks. We ended up going up icehouse canyon, camped at the saddle. Then summited cucamonga peak the next day. Im sure it depends on the time of year, but if you camp on the saddle you may very likely get woken up very early by the abundance of people that come to that part of the trail. For me there are two reasons it does not get 5 stars. First, the views at the saddle are not spectacular in comparison to the views that many of the local peaks provide. Second would be the abundance of people. This was my second time here. There ia also a map at the saddle to help you find which way you need to go, but you should hike with a map and know you're...

I had fun on the Icehouse Saddle Trail! The way it was steep and challenging, but it was enjoyable. I recommend going further onto other trails to make the hike longer because the way out was busy with hikers going up. That's not a problem in itself, but there was very little trail etiquette. So I found myself waiting for long periods to let other hikers pass without anyone letting me pass. But the traffic seemed to lessen by noon. So next time I'm going to time my descent about noon. The parking is tough. I arrived at 5:30AM and the lot was full. I was able to find a spot on the shoulder of a nearby road, but it was one of the last available places to park. You need an Adventure Pass to park here, so plan to get...

Lots of people on the trail. Saw some people taking vodka shots half the way up and many other people listening to music with speakers. The way up is challenging, but not too hard. For me the way down was harder because there are many loose rocks, so if you don't have trekking poles or boots to protect you from rolling your ankles you will have a hard time on the way down. I had fun, but wouldn't do it again. For a less challenging hike in the area try Bridge to Nowhere, or for a hike just as challenging with better views and less rocks on the ground go to Three...

The icehouse saddle can be reached via mt baldy village, it's a great place to stop and rest before you start your final decent to either Ontario peak or Cucamonga peak. The single-track to Icehouse Saddle climbs 2,600 feet over 3.6 miles There's no water here, but there is a shaded area where you can relax and enjoy a snack, take a breath and a couple of pictures. The view is nice. Ontario peak is 2.8 miles from the saddle and Cucamonga peak is 2.5 miles. Other trails for other hikes are also available from the saddle those are just the two most popular ones.

The saddle is at an elevation of roughly 7600 feet and gives you access to the Three T's and to Cucamonga and Ontario Peaks. From Icehouse Canyon trailhead, you have to climb up 2500 feet in around 3.5 miles - nothing dangerous or too tough - just a continuous climb. There's a wide creek along the trail for the first mile. No particularly great views from the saddle itself, but definitely go to one of the destinations from there.
