A medium size rest area just South of Cheyenne, WY. It has some covered picnic areas and an Information Center which mostly covers Wyoming but if you ask the Attendant, they also have Colorado maps and information (but they were hiding them under the desk, FYI).
I stop just to rest or get a map, but I don't find it to be as restful an area as some of Wyoming's other rest stops.
Weather conditions are usually a factor. If it's really sunny, there is no shaded parking.
It can be windy (that's not unusual), or rainy and in the winter cold and snowy (and probably windy as well).
Do remember that the State of Colorado is so close you can just about reach out and touch it! (Just a few miles south on I 25. If you want to go to Denver, just point the vehicle South and eventually you will run right into it.
But first enjoy the fun and friendly cities of Ft Collins, Loveland and east from Loveland to Rocky Mountain National Park, before you go towards the Mile High City.
If you turn that vehicle the opposite way, you will very quickly enter the Capital city of Wyoming: Cheyenne.
Cheyenne is a medium size city with a fascinating history, and at one time in the past, rivaled Denver, CO. Now it's a more historical city with friendly people and a lot to see, so don't miss it.
If you like Capitol buildings, I have not been to the Capitol building in Cheyenne for many years, but call ahead and inquire: It used to be one of my all time favorite Capitol buildings.
This area always makes me feel at home, since I have lived in both Colorado...
Read moreWyoming seems to be a really awesome and expansive place with lots of adventure opportunities. This is the nicest rest stop I have ever stopped at. And definitely the best Information Center. Why 1 star then? The problem is the people. They are not welcoming here at all. Drove down from Devils Tower yesterday. The entire drive, I had guys come up on me really fast, then tailgate me till I just pulled off the road. And I drive a 2017 Toyata Tacoma. Going back to why I give this place 1 star, is the "We don't care about you" mentality followed me here. While getting coffee, I tried to be friendly to the women working the Information Center. Then she asked "Where I was headed"? By this point, I thought she was actually friendly and welcoming. I told her that I lived on the road full time, so I really had no absolute direction. From that point on, she no longer wanted to talk to me. Trying to be nice, I told her it was Ok. People who don't travel think people who do all the time are crazy, and need a cat scan. Then I mentioned to her that I started in Sioux Falls, went to the Black Hills, then saw the Devils Tower. Then I said my my mom lived in Fort Collins. Still got nothing, so drank my coffee and left. Will stop here again if needed for the Rest Stop, but definitely not for...
Read moreI needed to stop and rest. Wow this spot was like an oasis in the middle of the longest road I've ever driven! Its quiet and the trucks made me feel better. Not so isolated. It's not fancy like some of the others. My dogs kept thinking we were checking into a hotel they were so beautifully landscaped and shiny, clean and always with heartfelt history and memorials related to the state or our country's roads and highways. This is NOT that kind of rest area. All that being said, it was my favorite! I miscalculated my time behind the wheel and im traveling solo with 2 dogs so although I'm profient enough in my ninja skills, im not asking for trouble pulling over to sleep in some access road off the freeway. Hello Dateline sheesh. Waking up to the Wyoming sunrise, feeling competent to stop when I needed to, and being blessed by the "rest area in the middle of the longest road over ever driven in my life. Sincerest thanks to Wyoming DOT! And all the truckers keeping OUR...
