Tonight, my father, his girlfriend, and I visited HIGH PLAINS STEAKHOUSE at Horse Palace Swan Ranch - Gaming & OTB in Cheyenne, WY. Unlike the bustling casinos of Reno or Las Vegas, this venue offers a refreshing change with its small size and no-smoking policy. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted by a gentleman who directed us to the restaurant. The hostesses were friendly and seated us promptly. Our waitress was attentive from the start, taking our drink orders swiftly and explaining the specials. We opted for the ribeye special, and my dad's girlfriend chose the fried shrimp. Salads arrived promptly; I enjoyed the house salad with blue cheese dressing, complemented by freshly ground pepper and Parmesan. The bread and butter were delightful additions to start our meal. When our entrées arrived, my ribeye, ordered medium-rare, came out closer to medium-well. Although slightly overcooked, the steak was still flavorful, and the whipped potatoes were exceptional. I passed on the asparagus, which didn't look appetizing. My dad raved about his perfectly cooked steak, calling it one of the best he's had recently, and his girlfriend was equally pleased with her meal. While the food quality was generally good, the price point was a bit high for the experience, especially considering the slight misstep with my steak. Nevertheless, the service was attentive, and the atmosphere was pleasant. It’s a nice change from the typical larger venues, and I would consider returning on a future visit to explore more of their menu offerings.

Came at 6pm for the Grand Opening today. A little disappointed, especially after being so excited for them to open. The inside is a lot smaller than I thought. Not much of a restaurant, a few tables that's open to the casino floor. Was really hoping they would have put in a buffet like Black Hawk. That would have definitely brought me back as I love getting my comps for rooms and buffets at all the other casinos we go to (granted I know this isn't a "casino"). Started out by getting a drink. They were out of almost every bottled beer already. Then there was a large section of the machines not turned on and then some that were out of order. The ATM machine was down and a manager was working on it. While I tried to use the tap function he notified me that I had to insert and that the tap was not working. Day one and already the place is half operable. The Dunkin is not open yet and neither is the valet. The machines didn't pay at all and after I hit my limit we decided to just drive to Black Hawk for the night.

Stopped in with my scratch coupon received in mail. After signing up for players club I ended up with $30 in promotion credits. Played for about an hour and cashed out with about $120. Not bad for not using any of my own money. I then sat at the bar and had lunch. Grilled chicken sandwich with fries and a pop ($17 before tip). It was decent and didn’t appear to microwave warmed up food. For lunch it is just basically sandwiches (burgers, grilled chicken or fish sandwich). Bar tender said at around 4 they open up the dinner menu. Looks like a good variety, but yes pricy. Attached pic of menu. The stage for the band is right above and behind the bar. I asked and the bar tender did say it gets pretty loud at the bar when bands play. Overall, not a bad place to spend a few hours at every so often. I will be coming back.

As others have said, these are " HHR machines " NOT slot machines, and they are VERY tight with seldom and low payouts, they MIGHT give you back 5% of whatever you put in, just enough to keep you playing until you lose it all, I never see " hand pays " to people anytime I'm there, which is the opposite of black hawk ( where you see them non stop )

Ive been to this place dozens of times and have come to know, if you go on a weekday these machines will take your money and give you nothing, not even let you win a little to keep you playing, then on weekends or " holiday events " where there is high traffic, you might get a little return on your money but nothing to write home about. The machines have been programmed to yield HIGH to the casino, and a very small return to patrons, of the gross amount that comes in

If you've ever been to a casino with real slot machines outside of Wyoming, then compare it to here, there is a humongous and blatantly obvious difference

I definitely do not see this establishment staying popular for very long unless they remove the shady programming from their machines and decide to be fair, I myself as well as several other Cheyenne locals that I know have figured out that this is not the place to go, and I'm sure an increasingly high number of others are figuring out the same, the hard way unfortunately

9/10 times i see people getting sucked dry and leaving irritated anytime I'm there

Aside from that, most employees here are pretty nice, especially one of the bartenders, who...

I have played certain games they have offered since 2009. I have come to know certain ones enough to know as others have that these older games have been manipulated with. They have also been set up to bounce around their jackpots from location to location making it unfair. If I put in $100 ad play .20 cents a roll for over 7 hours and not hit even the smallest of jackpots then something is very wrong. Prior to the existing ownership taking over a year ago people use to hit jackpots often, not now. The owners and programmers can't say that the chips in these machines can't be manipulated. Patterns have been, Free Spins have been. Blockers have been added. A larger horse field has been added to the videos. And in my opinion, those Players cards are just a tool to drain certain patrons dry. So winning isn't random. I don't who's getting kick backs from allowing more machines but as a resident of Cheyenne since 1981 Im against it until the owners go back to be fair. Let Dell Range and Down Town have more winners like on the Angel Gate machine. Quit being the shady casino that Vegas...
