My laptop was glitching so I brought it in to be diagnosed and repaired. Pc solutions diagnosed the problem as being a fan that needed to be replaced which was over heating the laptop. I was charged $238 to have the fan replaced. They then told me that the fan wasn’t broken, and that it was actually the motherboard causing it to not work correctly, so they’d have to replace the motherboard, and that they couldn’t find a replacement and that it was effectively trash as a result. The company that originally made the computer identified a replacement which I purchased, and will be having it diagnosed at another business before they install the new motherboard in case that wasn’t the issue. Overall I am dissatisfied by the wasted $238, and would go elsewhere for repairs.
The store may be sufficient for less complicated repairs and issues and the store itself is fun.
Edit: pc solutions response is not accurate. I never made any modifications to my computer. I never applied any thermal paste. Claiming I made any modifications is a lie. I don’t own any thermal paste and wouldn’t even know how to apply it even if I had it. I brought my laptop in to have someone else fix it specifically because I couldn’t identify the issue, couldn’t attempt to solve it and because I am not a specialist at diagnosing and fixing computers.
I opened the back to see if there was something I could identify that was causing the malfunction. Taking the plastic cover off is the extent of what I did to the computer. I did not touch anything inside of the computer or do anything other than take off the back piece of plastic.
Claiming I did otherwise is a lie. I had brought my laptop to this business several months ago because of this problem and they claimed they fixed it, so if thermal paste was improperly applied then the only possible time it could’ve been was when it was being assembled.
I stand by my dissatisfaction of their having wasted $238 on an improper diagnosis and unnecessary fan replacement and I’m further dissatisfied that they’re lying about me having made some modifications to my computer. I also disagree with their assessment that repairing a 3 year old computer as not making sense, and that’s my call to make, not theirs.
Also, I asked pc solutions to give an assessment on whether the motherboard that MSI, the company that made the computer and who I contacted to ask about replacing the motherboard, had identified as a replacement, would actually fix the problem before I ordered it.
I asked for their confidence on whether or not the actual issue was the motherboard since they had incorrectly identified the fan as the issue before, and I didn’t want another unnecessary replacement done. So claiming I found some random motherboard and asked them whether it would work isn’t relevant at all - MSI identified the replacement.
I wanted to be confident they were replacing the right part, and that the motherboard was actually the issue, which they refused to give any indication of their confidence in.
I didnt ask them to guarantee the quality of the new motherboard, I just wanted to know that they actually were confident that the issue was the motherboard.
I also never claimed that this business tried to gouge me, just that they made an incorrect diagnosis that led to them making an unnecessary replacement which resulted in a waste of $238 of my money.
Bringing up all these other irrelevant points does nothing to change the VERY SIMPLE fact that pc solutions incorrectly diagnosed the issue and wasted $238 of my money.
Edit 2: Still doesn’t change the fact that you guys made an incorrect diagnosis and wasted $238 of my money! That’s what I’m dissatisfied with! Don’t know why you’re bringing up so many irrelevant points when the fact that you wasted $238 on an unnecessary replacement is the whole reason I’m...
Read moreWow! My laptop's internal camera was not working and I tried everything to troubleshoot the problem myself. Finally, it was time to call in the professionals. I sent an inquiry to the folks at PC Solutions through their website and received a reply within the hour. The next day, I drove from Provincetown to Yarmouth Port to drop off my laptop for what I expected to be weeks of diagnostics, estimates, and costly repairs. Nope! I was greeted like I was an old friend and walked through the registrations process in minutes. I used their clean and public restroom, grabbed a few Hershey's Kisses and headed to my PT appointment. To my surprise, as I was departing my appointment (just over an hour later) to make the 1 hour drive home to Ptown, I got a call (not an email, text, or letter) from one of the owners. "It was easy and we were able to take care of it in 15 minutes," said the kind voice on the other end of the phone. What!? Not only that, but because she remembered I lived in Ptown, she offered to meet me somewhere, so I did not have to make the entire 1 hour drive again. Who does that!? We made arrangements for me to meet them the next time I was in town for a PT appointment, 2 days later. Sure enough, on my way home from my PT appointment, I met one of the other owners just off Route 6 to retrieve my repaired laptop. He even demonstrated it was repaired before sending me on my way. Talk about personal and good customer service! The invoice arrived by email the next day and was simple to pay online. The cost? Much less than I expected and a major surprise. I would have paid much more. Bottom line....if you need anything done related to computer repairs, diagnostics, or other services they provide, GO TO PC SOLUTIONS. They are honest, friendly, professional, and AWESOME!
Update: In November 2023, I took the same laptop to be examined, because my touch pad was not working properly. Once again, my experience was outstanding. They responded to my initial email promptly and with exactly the information I needed. When I dropped it off, I was greeted immediately, with a smile, and efficiently checked-in. The work was done in the time they predicted. I was notified it was repaired, what was done to fix it, and how much it cost. I was able to pay quickly online. I picked it up and they watched me log-in to ensure I was satisfied. I was. I drove 2 hours (twice) and will do it again. They...
Read moreThe Miracle Worker was a book and a movie about Helen Keller and her teacher Annie who taught Helen how to communicate and live and prosper in the world. That, of course, is not the only use of the term “miracle worker.” There have been many others, some of significance, and some of a less noble nature. However, please know there are miracle makers all around us, and two important ones to computer users are right here on Cape Cod in Yarmouth Port at PC Solutions Cape Cod, at 923 Route 6A.
I have had several occasions to visit with the owners, Phil and Jamie, including having them work on my relatively new MacBook Pro. I was immediately impressed with Phil’s ability to diagnose and fix my computer (which seemed to be dead)...hence my use of the descriptor “miracle worker.” Even more impressive, however, is the owners’ ability to make me, and others like me, extremely comfortable in spite of the fact that I am almost lost around these impressive machines. Both Phil and Jamie were patient, kind, personable, and keenly interested in making me feel comfortable with, first, just being there, and then with the entire process of communicating about our computer’s issues and prospects.
They have created that positive and welcoming atmosphere in a number of ways. First, they both are great listeners, especially important to someone who does not know and speak all the lingo of computers. Second, they themselves did not speak just computer language, and instead were able to communicate on my level. The customer area of this business is interesting and welcoming, with numerous amusing and sometimes poignant quotations posted around the room, all dealing with people and the computer world in which we live. The vast majority of these brought a smile to my face and to the faces of others in the room. The owners are sometimes busy with other customers seeking advice or service, so these posted thought-provokers keep those waiting busy and interested.
Helen Keller had Annie as her miracle worker, and, recently, I had PC Solutions of Cape Cod as mine. I recommend them with enthusiasm, confidence,...
