Photos shown in pictures were far from what we were given, which honestly I didn't care much for since it was only for a weekend to realistically to sleep but still at least make an effort to show what I actually am paying for. Apparently some of the rooms were updated and some were not. The room itself was muggy and toilet was backed up to the wall with no space - would have much rather used an outhouse. The pool was actually very nice and clean. The owner/manager (not sure what she was) was fairly nice (or so she seemed) and gave me a rundown of activities and places to go/eat. What really aggravated me was the booking process. I booked via booking.com and prior to my arrival at the property, I was called by the property stating I needed to pay the property directly in order to confirm the booking so naturally I did because I was already heading there and didn't feel like going through looking for a new place. I expected the charge to be lifted the next business day, which didn't happen and then I figured I'd call the property - funny thing is they had no problem not picking up the phone this time. I called booking.com and they tried to reach out and the property did not reply to their messages either. I called property again - same problem; no response. At this point, I called booking.com and they told me that I would need to submit a claim in order to receive the money back, which I was told would take approximately 1 week. My frustration is that I am wasting time making pointless phone calls when the location can't pick up the phone but will gladly take whatever money that is thrown their way and not blink twice. Please do yourself a favor and spend the extra buck and spend a quality night at another location - I am sure that you will enjoy it much more than if you...
Read moreArrived on the Cape primarily to settle my daughter into a work placement in Wellfleet; the Starlight was booked by a travel agent. |First thing, we're from the UK, and arrived from Boston via Uber. When we arrived, Karen was immediately super friendly. The reception had a machine for hot and cold water, great in the heat. She gave us a great list of local sights and places to eat; but also the disappointing news that a lot of the wonderful places she mentioned are only accessible by car, walking not really an option as the roads are busy and lack pavements. She gave us a rucksack to use for carrying our stuff about (ours had our holiday stuff in) and helped us immensely. |For the four days we were there, we used Uber a lot. The Mayflower beach is about an hour's walk, the town of Dennis about 30, the nearest pub and shop about 15 mins; all on roads with little room to walk on. |The Lodge itself is in a lovely environment, the grounds have places to sit and relax; the pool was great in the heat. There's a space with a firepit that we were welcome to use. The room was a bit cramped for four adults and their luggage, but it was clean and well appointed. There's a communal kitchen, that has a large fridge and cupboards full of utensils. A hob and microwave with a small shower and bath at the back. The kitchen was sometimes messy, other residents didn't always tidy up and left stuff in the sink despite notes warning against this. It's not always obvious whether the food in the fridge and cupboards belongs to residents or not; so we bought our own. There's a fridge in the room, so this worked. |All in all, a good stay, friendly staff and good facilities. If you're staying on the Cape, you'll need to drive or spend a...
Read moreHad a very disappointing stay at the Starlight. The room we stayed in (118) was very dirty and smelt of mold. Upon arrival the room was not cleaned yet so the owners went in with a shower caddy and cleaned it for 30 minutes. Upon entering, there was mold on the ceiling of the bathroom and I even had to clean the A/C filter due to the smell. The floor was grimy and left a black film. While the room may have been 'cleaned' upon arrival, the conditions allude to long term neglect. We checked out after our first night and I requested to be refunded for the evening we did not stay. We were told that we couldn't be refunded because we used Expedia, however Expedia agents worked with us to try to get refunded to no avail (starlight did not pick up the phone). I emailed Starlight with images from our room and they have not replied back to me. I definitely would avoid staying here as they do not take care of the property and also do not work with you when unsatisfied. ||Positive images and reviews have been...
