Ubon's — Attraction in Yazoo City

Friendly folks, but the BBQ was just ok. Tried a little bit of everything.

Home fries were fantastic, as were the beans. Coleslaw was nasty. Brisket tasted ok but was wet, like it had been sitting in water. Sausage was decent but nothing remarkable. Pulled pork was ok. Chicken was pretty good. Ribs were mushy and weren't flavored very well. None of the meat had any crust or bark, I almost wondered if they boiled or steamed the meat. It smelled like BBQ, but the taste and texture didn't live up to expectations.

In general, everything could benefit from better seasoning and more careful storage (BBQ should not be wet or mushy). The main flavor I got was smoke, it overpowered the meat and any seasoning. Maybe they mean for you to use the sauce, but the sauce came out of the bottle at the table lumpy like it had gone bad. Besides, why should I have to use sauce to cover bland BBQ? Meat + seasoning + smoke should be enough.

Could not find another BBQ place in town, so I guess they have that going for them. In a bigger city, I don't think they'd stay in business.

Normally my visits here were 5 star visits. After talking to family after I got back with a large order which I expected to take time I found out that it is normally a long wait. The staff is friendly and even the cooks had to pitch in to help get plates out to the tables while I was waiting for my to-go order (I messed part of my order up and add it some time to this). The staff seemed overwhelmed. I wish they had the fried pickles in stock when I was in town. They have been some of the best I've ever had. Everything that we got food wise was great. They are a normal stop of mine on my annual trip and I'm sure I'll give them another try next year. I've always hoped they would make it do the barbecue competitions closer to...

Ubons was great! The food was awesome, the service was friendly, the atmosphere was inviting. The only thing I can complain about was some of the customers there. They complained about waiting on their food like 15 min after ordering and I felt sorry for the wait staff.

This is a sit down, relax and enjoy your meal type place. Your food will come, and it will be hot when it does. Try playing ‘I Spy’ with the names on the wall and enjoy the wait that is required for a fresh meal. If you are in a hurry, go to the McDonalds down the street.

Everything we ordered was delicious. We will make this an annual stop on our way home...
