This place was phenomenal. We drove from Sweetwater, Tx, about 6 hours, because my mom and I have strange hobbies and this is how she wanted to spend her birthday! It was absolutely worth it.
Eddie was a fantastic tour guide. He really delved into the history and could tell you about almost anything in any given room, the people who were in it, etc. My only complaint is that he seems to enjoy suddenly smacking things or yelling to frighten you even worse! And I hate to admit, but it was very effective! On top of focusing on the history, he also told us about paranormal activity and showed us where it happened, including showing us photos he'd received.
The tour was very interesting. The hospital is split up into multiple sections. The basement, which includes the priests quarters, maintenance rooms, laundry rooms, etc. The ground floor, including the pediatric/labor and delivery wing, the chapel, the offices, the adult wing, the kitchen, the ER, and the chapel. And the second floor, including the nuns quarters, a classroom for the children, an isolation room, etc. Every room felt different. It's hard to explain how overwhelmingly oppressive this place is. No matter where you are, you constantly feel like you're being watched.
I didn't know about the tattoo thing before I visited. Apparently it's common for people with tattoos to be targeted by the spirits, especially in the chapel. My mom has 5 tattoos and I have 13, all of which were visible. Luckily, neither of us were shoved to the ground or scratched, which seems to be a common occurrence. Though, in the basement, something did suddenly grab my shirt and yank on it. We were in the room where the double murder/suicide took place, and Eddie was explaining the murder and showing us the bloodstains when it happened. Spooked me half to death, to say the least! Other than that and the oppressive feeling, we didn't get too much activity, which we were actually grateful for considering how spooked we already were. I did get a few good photos. In one, at first it looks all the world like a woman in a doorway, but is actually just a rusted cabinet. In another, I took 2 photos in the same spot. In one there's nothing in the hallway, but in the second there looks like a foot and a leg running away from us. It's strange.
Overall, this hospital is a paranormal hotspot with a phenomenal tour guide and an intense and interesting history. I absolutely recommend it for lovers of history and the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst and foremost, I wish they would try to renovate, and preserve this place. It's literally collapsing and being swallowed by the elements. And, my concern is the smell of mold. It was wet all over, and that concerned me. But, I really enjoyed the tour. I like the history, did I believe everything being told to me, no. But it was fun. Eddie was very nice and fun. I did sense a little girl with pigtails, but that was it. My daughter and I are both psychic mediums, I did ask our angels to protect us and that we didn't want to bring anything home and to keep negativity away. Maybe that's why I only experience the little girl. It's such a cool building, I'm so saddened the owner doesn't realize the gem he has. Plus, there was a couple selling jewelry outside, crystals. They were awesome, I got me some. Super nice people. If you go, hopefully they're there. Overall, I recommend it, wear a mask, though. Answer to Review: You get so many Youtube channels, along with big production televised shows, maybe instead of hoping for money to rain and fall down, maybe you can start a GoFundMe, or ask those television shows and their hosts that hopefully you made contacts with to help you do a special televised show where people can donate to help you restore the place. Just saying. A little ingenuity...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was once a lovely building that has fallen into a state of disrepair and neglect. The insides are exposed to the elements and a constant parade of roaches, raccoons, and other critters make it difficult to discern the living from the still present paranormal elements in Yorktown Memorial Hospital.
A great deal of work should be done to preserve the ability to have experiences here, but it seems as though the folks in charge, while infinitely polite through the booking process, and entertaining during the tour, do not care to protect the history of the place as long as they are able to collect their nightly bounty from visitors.
This place seems like it is dangerous at this point with bowed basement walls, many (if not most rooms) unable to be explored due to collapsed ceilings and decay, insects, and varmints. Hopefully some restoration will take place that will allow folks to continue to experience the history and occasional terror of this place with less cause for concern for their well-being.
All that said, we are grateful for the experience, obliged to the caretakers for making the process simple and interesting, and glad to be getting geared up for our next investigation. We were able to enjoy some experiences (and even capture some good evidence) that...
