We planned a very last minute escape to Napa last week, and with not much else to go off of other than Yelp reviews and which wineries still had reservations available, we landed at Paraduxx. I learned they're part of the Duckhorn Vineyards family, and I'm a big fan of Decoy Merlot so I was excited to visit.
The winery itself is beautiful... it was giving modern farmhouse vibes and had beautiful outdoor seating. I made a Paraduxx Tasting reservation for myself ($45) and a cheese & charcuterie plate for my "not a wine guy" partner ($35). The service was top notch, and we had a really leisurely-paced time.
Why not 5 stars? Truthfully, I didn't love any of the wine. They are known for red blends, which are my go-to when I'm buying a bottle for myself. My wine gauge is based on "would I buy a bottle of this?" and I didn't buy any. Also, the ongoing construction was very much announced on their website and not a surprise to me, but I guess I didn't realize there would be a skid-steer doing its thing on the other side of a cyclone fence about 10-20 ft away from us on the patio. I totally understand remodels and the dust & noise that go along with them, but it was a little closer & louder than expected.
The staff was hospitable, the views were beautiful, and we had a nice time... but I will likely not return since the wine didn't do it for me. I'm sure the place will be even more stunning after they're done with...
Read moreThe service is always among the best. The wines are great... I place them on the lower end of the high quality side... Aka... accessible! We drink The Proprietary Red 1-2 times a month. The atmosphere is really nice and we're allowed to bring our dog, and they always bring a water bowl for him.
I've been a Goldeneye wine club member for 6 or so years, which includes tastings at Duckhorn and Paraduxx. Both are great properties. I love that one membership has so many properties I can taste at, including 2 in Napa. Duckhorn is a no-go on dogs though. I can try a few of the same wines here with a more laid back atmosphere with my pup.
The servers have always been the best of the best as far as customer service. A great spot in Napa!
Here's my tip for you... Try a place a little more high end earlier, then land here. It's nice to try and buy nice wines at a place like Heitz or Opus, but we can afford more bottles here for a standard...
Read moreWe had a really great experience here! it was our last winery (we went to cakebread and peju) and by far my favorite. One of the reason is the atmosphere. It is definitely not your traditional tasting. We pay up front $25 and get 6 tastings plus a side plate with cheese.
Once you pay, you go out back and find a spot in back. There are tons of comfy chairs and tables where we were able to relax and hang out during our tasting. We also brought our own crackers and cheese out to eat. After a few minutes, our tasting guide brought out our wines and explained each one of them. After he left, we were able to drink at our leisure.
This is a place to go if you like Zinfandel blends. The Rose was pretty good as well as the Reflection. The 2006 paraduxx was pretty good as well. The cheapest bottle was about $23 and the go quickly up after that for about $60 for the...
