Yuma's best park with different activities and areas to enjoy. This land used to be a neglected and overgrown landfill but restoration and rehabilitation efforts by local non-profits and the city government turned it into a sprawling and enjoyable riverside multi-use park. Great for walking, jogging, or cycling since it stretches approximately a mile along the river and links Joe Henry Park on one end to East Wetlands on the other via a mix of paved and gravel trails. Love to ride my bikes along the East Main Canal bike path and ending up here especially in the cooler months.
Walking along the trails or sitting in the Hummingbird Garden affords you the chance to see all sorts of wildlife from hummingbirds, burrowing owls, rabbits, or even the occasional beaver. Educational signs dot the trails to highlight different aspects of the park and local history. A boat ramp and two small beaches allow for swimming, kayaking, and tubing in the Colorado River if you prefer recreation in the water. If you like the water but not getting wet you can fish in the community fishing pond where the ducks love to meander around. Kids can enjoy the playgrounds including the large castle of the Stewart Vincent Wolfe Creative Playground. Bigger kids and kids-at-heart can enjoy the disc golf course. Numerous gazebos make for great family gathering spots. Public bathrooms are serviceably equipped but are only on the east end of the park unfortunately. Over the years the park has been added to and improved with more to come including the Gowan Grove on the west end that should grow into a nice copse of...
Read moreWe live in the Phoenix area, but my husband travels to Yuma a few times each year. My kids (currently 8, 6, 4 and 1) and I typically join him for some of the time. This park is AMAZING. I wish we had something like it at home. CASTLE PARK: It looks like a castle and goes on and on and on. As you enter, there are a few smaller things and then the playground is divided up into sections of different themes. Plus there's an area for little kids themed like an old western town complete with a train, bank, etc. It was amazing before, but this summer, they have added a zip line and sope spiderweb climbing structure. I wish there were a close restroom to this area. LAKE AREA: We have spent a little time in the area near the lake. It's nice and quite spacious, with wildlife and people fishing. Ramadas, picnic tables, what I believe is a piñata pole and a large "normal" playground structure. There are restrooms over here and they are quite adequate park bathrooms.
There are several other areas that we have not spent much time in. Walking trails in the trees are pretty. We played by the boat landing for awhile once and enjoyed that.
This is definitely a park to check out when in Yuma. If you're visiting, plan at least...
Read moreThis place is awesome. The kids just love it! We go there at least twice a week! The playground is great a parent friendly. Lots of benches. The duck pond is so peaceful it puts you to sleep. The boat ramp has its own beach which is awesome. Bring an umbrella, tent or some sort of shade. It's the only thing missing. Walking trail is very cool but you will get dusty and dirty. You and the kids will get dirty but is worth it. Bar-B-Q grills and pavilions. Lots of stuff happening there but haven't tried that yet. Seen a lot of parties though. Has a bathroom that's not a Porta Potty. Huge plus! All and all this is a great family day! Something for everyone in the family. No one gets bored! Forgot to mention the park is well maintained and no trash around that I've seen. Not even on the trails. Let's keep it that way! One of the best free fun things...
