Colt Creek State Park (located in Lakeland, FL) is a very nice and well-maintained park. It is managed by the Southwest Florida Water Management District. The RV sites have water and electric but no sewer hookups. They do have two dump-tank areas which is nice. Most pads are gravel but there are a couple with concrete pads. I would like the park to plant some shade trees. Although each site is very roomy, it is wide open to the sun. The park could have fit twice the number of sites in the location, but they did not, giving the park an open private feel. Each site has a permanent fire ring, a separate BBQ, and picknick table.

We stayed at this park over the 2019 Independence Weekend. I’m going to give this park a 4-star rating because it is well maintained. The bathrooms are clean, and the land is well pristine. The caretakers and staff are friendly and helpful.

This is a great place to get away from it all since there is nothing to do in the immediate area. There are no historic sites, museums, etc. in the area. Therefore, this is a good place for a group gathering or family reunion where you do not expect to site see. They do have three lakes and a dock you can fish. Since the tempter ranged from 91-97 degrees and humidity was 80%+ while we stayed at the park, we did not have the opportunity to fish in the lake. Although, it is a nice park we will probably not be back to visit. There is simply...

I just seen post from 4 days ago well maintained trails needs to be corrected. Was there Sunday hoping to ride the trails, trails all closed since Milton can’t access. Was there several trips thru the summer horrible. excuses of no one to mow mowers not working the trails were in bad shape forget riding or even taking the family out for a walk. Camp in camp ground no firewood. No one to cut the wood area grown up misquotes totally all day long snakes plenty in campground can’t mow no one is there to hear mowers run. This go to park is going down hill we sure miss Dale and Val that man mowed everyday his wife cleaned the bathrooms were open. you fired people but you ain’t got all the old dead weight out of there yet maybe soon to save our park. Get people in there that work instead of sit in the office and give out excuses. Make things happen Canoes still under the tree that was taken out to be as told refurbished and then would have them back out for rental. They are still collecting leaves got tractors under a barn it don’t take the head cashier at Walmart to drive a tractor why not use them please somebody save our once beautiful Park. We’ve offered to help but everything requires a...

DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE RESERVING!!! SHADY SHADY PEOPLE!!! As my daughter and I wanted get away and do some camping we researched and found Colt Creek in Lakeland, FL. I made reservations online for camping. Mind you, I had to pay when reserving. Not a big deal. So we get there to find that the camp sites are gravel and no way nor no where to tie/stake down your tent. We prayed no wind gusts came. We stayed at one camp site the first 3 nights and were suppose to then move to another camp site on Sunday. Come to find out the camp site we were to be moving to WAS WALKING ONLY ACCESS. No vehicles could get to this site. THIS information was NEVER relayed to me at check in nor on the website. When you have a truck AND trailer full of stuff it was not feasible to WALK to this site. Mind you we were reserved to stay an entire week. So, I speak to someone about this and asked for a refund. I was told NO REFUNDS. I advised that they could just put it back in the card I reserved with. Again, I was advised no refunds. How is this acceptable when THE PARK did not disclose this information via website nor at check in. I want my $80 refunded due to negligence on...

This park was Amazing for lack of words. It is pristine...The real Florida! We got there on a Tuesday afternoon and we were greeted by the nicest ranger...feeling spontaneous we asked if there were any available spots to camp(we occasionally carry around with our gear if we're driving 45 min+ from home) We felt so lucky ... the Entire tent area was open so we got first choice in our spot (closest to the bathroom of course..lol) spot #13. We loved it..it was so clean and quite (I felt bad blowing up our air mattress at 5pm..lol) after we checked out our spot we headed to the big creek for some kayaking and light fishing till about sundown...we sat by the fire and as the sun started to go down we noticed at least 20+ little bunnies in the patch by our fire pit. We were delighted.. Had a great night and the Morning was even better. We saw Deer around 6am on the way to the launch...We went kayaking & light fishing and took a 6 mile hike. Checkout time was 1pm which we found great. Highly recommended...we wish we had more time there.

We stayed 2 nights in the campground with our small AFrame popup. The sites have water and electric but no sewer. There is a dump station. Our camper doesn't have a bathroom so we use the bathhouse. It was very clean for the toilets. The showers could have been a bit cleaner. There was some small bugs in the bathhouse at night but it's Florida in the summer, so that can't be helped. The campground was very quiet and barely halfway full. It's small, only about 28 sites. They have pullthru and back in sites. There is also some tent only sites. Note the tent sites are covered in small gravel. We camped midweek and it's hot out. Not exactly prime camping season for Florida. The sites don't offer a lot of shade. The parking spot and picnic table area of the site is mainly covered with small gravel. There is some grass at each site though which makes it an easy spot to walk the dog. Each site had a picnic table, a fire pit and a picnic ground grill. This was site 24.

OVERALL: This campsite is brand new and VERY nice. The bathrooms have showers and are very clean. Unlike many other state and federal parks, rather than just not providing any way to sanitize or dry your hands, they've got soap at the sinks and even electric hand dryers! I was quite impressed. The camp host was very nice and even delivered the firewood we purchased. THE CAMPSITE: Brand new. They provide a handicap site! Having been handicapped once in my life before, I thought this was a very nice touch. Each campsite is far enough away from the other that you're not sleeping tent wall to tent wall. Each site has a nice gravel pad to set your tent up on. I cannot say for all sites, but at least the handicap site has water and power. WHAT I LOVED: They provide a washing machine and hot showers! WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: This is pretty hard to get away from, but you sure could hear the road at night. Loud and clear.
