A small but important museum, showcasing artifacts from people who lived here far longer than modern populations but remain little known.
There are many arrowheads and tools on display, demonstrating just how prolific these people were. I also didn’t know Darwin had visited Uruguay, so that display was especially interesting and informative.
The museum staff was nice and knowledgeable. The displays are well maintained, and the building is cool and comfortable, and visually interesting.
One thing I noticed is the limited representation of women from these early cultures, their tools, and their lives, despite making up half the population. This may be due to a lack of artifacts in the archaeological record, but with displays that do a good job filling in gaps, and painting a picture of men's lives, there is potential to expand this discussion.
