We are a group of twelve. We drive from Shimoga, and reach Jog. The official viewing point of Jog. There is lots of construction activity in progress. In another year, it may be a different place altogether, with better viewing of the majestic falls. But the condition of roads have to improve. It is a sunny day with mild misty drizzle. We are sure we will see Jog in full force. After all, there have been heavy rains this season. Water is aplenty! We look around for a warm tea before the big view. The only hotel around is busy with lunch. We try booking the veg lunch. But alas, not available. Some good soul suggests a kilometre down, you could be lucky with booking lunch in a small shack named Brahmin hotel. We are lucky. We get back to the viewing stretch. It is so misty. The water splashing down rises into a mist. Besides, there is a dark moving cloud. There is just water everywhere, but no Jog to be seen! The photographers tell us that it is not a lucky day for us. Instead, they offer to give our picture with a photoshopped mighty image of the Jog in the background. We are unmoved, we wait for our Luck God to smile. There ... the clouds are moving. There is the Jog hiding behind. We see a small portion of the gushing Jog. Wow! As humans, we believe the hidden Jog is even more enchanting. But a fresh moving cloud hides it. Someone curses the day, someone curses the view point ...perhaps, everything other than oneself!! After an hour of such hide and seek, we give up. Why is Jog hiding? We tell our driver that we saw the might of Jog in glimpses, not in its entirety. Unconcerned, he drives us back after a hearty Brahmins lunch. The driver suddenly takes a detour from our return Google Map route. Has he lost his way? We wonder. We leave it to him, he should know the way! He suddenly stops at one place down the road. He smiles and tells us, "Now go and see". The pessimists amongst us feel it wouldn't be worth it. Sleep off in the bus! There is a tea shop nearby; that settled it. We walk into the Government Circuit House. Thankfully no VVIPs are around, and so we walk down, by the side to the Jog viewing point. We hear the sound of gushing water. We have heard the same thing earlier, so it must be the same. We murmur. There is a small viewing point ahead and we move towards it. As we climb the steps, there is this thundering sound of the Jog falls. Then we see it all. The wide angle view of the full majesty of the Jog Falls. Wow! What a sight! The seen and forgotten scene from the movie Mackenna's Gold suddenly reveals itself!! The glistening waters of Jog gushing down from the hills at several places, against a setting Sun. Wow! This is what we have been longing to see! Jog at its best on a September evening. This is grandeur at its best. Photographs and videos don't grab the full beauty, which only our eyes can capture. As we return, there are smiles everywhere. We have seen Jog! In its entirety. Life is made!!

"Jog Falls: Nature's Majestic Symphony Unveiled" Jog Falls, located in the heart of the Western Ghats in Karnataka, India, is a breathtaking natural spectacle that leaves an indelible mark on anyone fortunate enough to witness its grandeur. My recent visit to Jog Falls was a mesmerizing experience, and it's undoubtedly a must-see destination for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. Spectacular Natural Wonder: Jog Falls is not just a waterfall; it's a symphony of nature in its most majestic form. With a height of over 800 feet, it stands tall as the second-highest plunge waterfall in India. The sheer force and volume of water as the Sharavati River makes its dramatic descent are awe-inspiring, creating an immersive and unforgettable sensory experience. Seasonal Variations: The beauty of Jog Falls is ever-changing, with its appearance transforming dramatically during different seasons. While the monsoon season, from June to September, witnesses the falls in their full glory, the post-monsoon months reveal a more gentle, cascading flow. The contrast between the two seasons offers visitors a unique perspective on the falls' versatility and natural beauty. Viewpoints and Accessibility: Jog Falls provides multiple viewpoints that allow visitors to marvel at its splendor from various angles. The Watkins Platform, the main viewpoint, offers a panoramic vista of the falls and the lush greenery of the surrounding landscape. A series of well-maintained steps lead down to the bottom, providing a closer look for those seeking a more adventurous experience. Photographer's Paradise: For photography enthusiasts, Jog Falls is a paradise. The interplay of sunlight and mist, especially during the early morning, creates a magical ambiance. Capturing the sheer force of the waterfall against the backdrop of the Western Ghats is a rewarding challenge that yields stunning results. Local Culture and Cuisine: The nearby region is rich in local culture, and a visit to Jog Falls provides an opportunity to explore the vibrant traditions of Karnataka. Local markets offer a taste of authentic cuisine, providing a perfect complement to the natural wonders. Conservation and Responsible Tourism: Efforts have been made to preserve the ecological balance around Jog Falls. Visitors are encouraged to follow responsible tourism practices, ensuring that the natural beauty remains unspoiled for future generations. In conclusion, Jog Falls is a testament to the raw, unbridled power of nature. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, an adventure seeker, or someone simply seeking a moment of awe, Jog Falls delivers an experience that transcends description. It's a symphony of water and rock, a dance of mist and sunlight – an experience that lingers in your memory long after you've left. Jog Falls is a true gem in the crown of India's natural wonders.

Jog Falls can be reached from multiple directions, including the Shivamogga-Sagara The dustbins provided by the Gram Panchayat are broken and left unused. Sidapura to Jog Falls is less than 20 kilometers, and Jog Falls has two entry points: a less crowded back gate with no entry fee, and a front gate where construction is ongoing, creating a total mess in handling crowds and vehicle parking. Unfortunately, the day we visited was cloudy, and the moisture from the falls made it impossible to see much of its beauty. The area is completely littered, with no visible efforts from the tourism or forest departments, despite the fact that they have constructed large buildings that are now abandoned and left to ruin. If there were an Olympic event for wasting national resources, India would surely win the gold medal. Simply putting up a sign that says "World Famous Jog Falls" does not make a destination world-famous. There are many other places to visit, such as Bheemeshwari Falls, Keladi, and other tourist spots around the area, but we were short on time. We then tried to visit Jog Falls again, but due to heavy traffic, we decided to leave and returned home via the same route through Sidapura, Soraba, Ranibennur, Davangere, Sira, and Tumkur. Overall, it was a short but memorable trip. If one plans for a week, they can explore Bhatkal, Sirsi, Sagara, and the entire Shimoga district.

We reached the place at three in the noon.. since it was Saturday the crowd was pretty decent .. not many people.. we have to park the vehicle in the parking lot and go near the area from where we can see the falls.. once we went there.. we were pretty disappointed as we couldn't see anything due to clouds.. we could only hear the sound of the water.. we decided to wait for sometime and see if clouds clear.. fortunately for us.. the clouds cleared within five minutes and we could see the falls ! It was even more magically because for us it was literally like unveiling the beauty of the falls . Slowly step by step the clouds cleared and we could see the entire view. the land scape.. the greenery.. we clicked few pics and again within 5 min.. it was all covered with the clouds.. since it had rained heavily for almost a week and a half before we visited.. the water was pretty good. Also I would like specifically mention that the route through Sagar uptil the falls is beautiful.. I can't emphasis how beautiful it was.. I would also like to inform you that the route won't be as beautiful during the summer as place would be quite dry and nothing to see much.. if you are visiting please visit from August to Dec - Jan

This fall has 2 main view points - 1. The main viewpoint, and 2. The british bungalow viewpoint. 1st one offers the bird's eye view of the falls, which is super amazing. You can see all falls from this place with no obstruction. However, the pathway to take you to the bottom of the falls is closed as there is a lot of construction work going on in this area to expand the viewpoint and build more platforms to view the falls as well as places of stay for the tourists. There is another viewpoint near this viewpoint which shows the hydro electric power plant. It is surrounded by lush green mountains and the view is mesmerizing. 2nd viewpoint is the one that takes you closer to the falls. It is near the falls starting point. And if you love adventure, then take the guide. The guide will take you to a hidden viewpoint which is not accessible to general public. Once you reach there, what you see can't be described in words. You will find yourself standing on top of the falls. You can lie down on stones and see the water falling 800ft from underneath you and the rainbow formed by merging falls. If you are scared of heights, then this viewpoint is not for you.

The sheer force and beauty of the falls left me spellbound. The moment I stepped out of my car, the roar of the falls enveloped me, and I couldn't wait to witness its grandeur.
