History of Tắc Sậy Parish

Tắc Sậy Church is located on National Highway 1A, about 500 meters past kilometer marker 2218. It is a large and beautiful church that is a popular tourist destination.

The parish of Tắc Sậy is actually larger than the church itself. It includes the following villages:

Ấp 2, Thị Trấn Hộ Phòng Ấp 2, ấp Khúc Tréo B, xã Tân Phong Ấp Thành Thưởng Ấp Quyết Thắng, xã An Trạch, huyện Giá Rai The name Tắc Sậy comes from the local dialect. It refers to a small, narrow road that runs past the church, which is surrounded by reeds.

The first parishioners of Tắc Sậy were a small group of people who came from other parishes, such as Trà Lồng, Kinh Đức Bà, and Hộ Phòng. The first priest to serve the parish was Father Jules DUCQUET, a French priest who was also the pastor of Bạc Liêu parish.

In 1930, Father Phanxicô Trương Bửu Diệp was assigned to Tắc Sậy parish. He was a popular and beloved priest who was known for his kindness and compassion. He served as pastor for 16 years, until his martyrdom in 1946.

After Father Diệp's death, the parish of Tắc Sậy was abandoned for many years. In 1952, Father Louis Marcello ĐẶNG TUẤN ANH (Allbéza) was sent to Tắc Sậy to help rebuild the parish.

Since then, Tắc Sậy parish has continued to grow and develop. The church was rebuilt in 1963, and the parish now has a school, a convent, and a rectory.

The most famous attraction at Tắc Sậy parish is the tomb of Father Phanxicô Trương Bửu Diệp. The tomb is a popular pilgrimage destination for people who believe that Father Diệp is a miracle worker.

In 1997, Tắc Sậy parish was elevated to the status of a shrine. The shrine is dedicated to Father Phanxicô Trương Bửu Diệp, and it is a popular destination for Catholics from all over the world.

Here are some of the key events in the history of Tắc Sậy parish:

1925: Father Jules DUCQUET establishes the parish of Tắc Sậy. 1930: Father Phanxicô Trương Bửu Diệp is assigned to Tắc Sậy parish. 1946: Father Phanxicô Trương Bửu Diệp is martyred. 1952: Father Louis Marcello ĐẶNG TUẤN ANH (Allbéza) begins rebuilding the parish. 1963: The church is rebuilt. 1997: Tắc Sậy parish is elevated to the status of a shrine. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any...

It’s a wide catholic church, clean and which is well known by its sacred Priest Diep, who is believed to grant you things you wish for visiting his tombstone. The construction has nothing to shout about, it looks similar to other churches. The best thing is a series of models (clay?) illustrating his activities and death exhibited inside the holly room (made based on the attached picture that I found online) However it seems like more and more people are making money out of religious belief here. You can easily see lots of shops or stands set up right in at the church gate offering pictures and souvenirs related to P. Diep, and a stall right in the holly room offers instant photo shoot who keeps crying about his service. Many people came in not praying but gossiping or chatting when I was there, then when leaving the church they yelled at their driver cause he was too slow to get the car out from the park. Well, it’s my own experience but all these things led to a not so good impression about the place. All in all, if you believe or are into discovering historical/religious events, come and visit. If not, you should...

Let me tell you about a hidden gem I stumbled upon on a recent trip to the Mekong Delta - the Tac Say Catholic Church in Bac Lieu. Now, I'm not even Catholic, but this place had a hold on me the minute I saw it.

It wasn't just the architecture, which is beautiful in a modern, almost stark way. There's a sense of peace that washes over you as soon as you step inside. Maybe it's the reverence in the air, or the quiet hum of prayer. The locals told me stories of Father Truong Buu Diep, a priest who served the community and is considered almost a saintly figure. There's a shrine to him on the grounds, and it's a place where people come to pray for blessings or give thanks.

Even if you're not religious, there's a power in this place. It's a place of hope, and it leaves a mark on you. I left feeling strangely light, and with a newfound appreciation for the beauty of faith, even for those who don't necessarily share it. If you find yourself in Bac Lieu, do yourself a favor and seek out the Tac Say Church. It's more than just a church - it's...
