Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) offers a streamlined and efficient experience for domestic arrivals, catering to travelers seeking a hassle-free entry to the island. Here’s an overview of what you can expect upon arrival:

⸻

🛬 Domestic Arrival Experience

Disembarkation and Terminal Entry: Upon landing, passengers are guided from the aircraft to the terminal via covered walkways or shuttle buses, depending on the parking position.

Baggage Claim: The baggage claim area is well-organized, with luggage typically arriving within 10–15 minutes. Clear signage and helpful staff assist in ensuring a smooth process.

Customs and Exit: For domestic flights, customs procedures are minimal. After collecting luggage, travelers can proceed directly to the exit, where various transportation options are available.

⸻

🧳 Facilities and Amenities • Cleanliness and Maintenance: The terminal is noted for its cleanliness and modern facilities, providing a comfortable environment for travelers. • CIP Lounge: For those seeking additional comfort, the domestic terminal houses a CIP lounge offering snacks, Wi-Fi, flight monitors, newspapers, magazines, TVs, and a smoking area. • Dining and Shopping: While options are somewhat limited, there are food stalls and shops available. However, prices may be higher compared to the city.

⸻

🚖 Transportation Options

Exiting the terminal, travelers have access to various transportation methods: • Taxis: Fixed-price taxi counters are available inside the terminal. Popular companies include Mai Linh and Vinasun, with fares to Duong Dong town averaging between 150,000 – 250,000 VND. • Ride-Hailing Apps: Services like Grab are operational, offering a convenient alternative to traditional taxis. • Private Transfers: Pre-booked private car services provide a personalized experience, often including amenities like air conditioning and Wi-Fi.

⸻

⚠️ Areas for Improvement • Wi-Fi Connectivity: Some travelers have reported limited or non-existent Wi-Fi access within the terminal. • Seating and Charging Stations: There is a noted scarcity of comfortable seating and charging points for electronic devices.

⸻

✅ Final Thoughts

Phu Quoc International Airport’s domestic arrival process is generally efficient and traveler-friendly. While there are areas that could benefit from enhancements, such as Wi-Fi connectivity and seating availability, the overall experience is positive, providing a smooth transition for visitors eager to explore the island.

Updated review: Rude staff, they didnt want to be there at all. Merely (not) doing their job and venting whatever anger and disappointment they have on passengers.

ESPECIALLY the bag security area. I was blocked by passengers who were waiting right after the body scanner for their bags hence i couldnt move anywhere else. The male security personnel simply pushed me away without saying a word. Both of them in the picture were just happily chatting away, not even serious with their job lol. Extremely unprofessional and rude! The other guy was just throwing out passengers belongings from the bags and also violently throwing the trays around. Please quit if you are not happy with your job, perhaps a baggage handler may be better suited for you since they dont have to deal with passengers.

It couldve been a great ending to most travellers’ vacation here in beautiful phu quoc. The locals have been nothing short of friendly and enthusiastic but the image is quickly tarnished by these arrogant airport staff. They should be ashamed that they brought disrepute to the airport and the locals.

Lack of restaurants, basically the 3 food outlets inside sells the same thing at the same cost. A ham and cheese croissant costs about 8usd, a banh mi and drink combo at 15usd, an iced coffee or tea starting at 4usd.

Nothing much to shop as well, a few booths selling the same souvenirs you can get at half the price from Kingkong/TR mart or anywhere else.

Initial review: Small and clean airport however it seems to be a little understaffed and could do better with organisation and clearer signs (especially at the checkin counters). Had trouble finding the check in counter and i could not find any airport staff.

Prior to my last resort for seeking help from other airlines’ checkin counters, i had sought for help from the ticketing counter of Vietjet Air and another airline beside it and was terribly upset by their lack of assistance and ignorance. They simply brushed you off, not even looking at you when you asked for help. This poor service makes you wonder how they treat their own passengers and customers. Just because i was not their customer, doesnt mean I am not a potential.

The airport should consider showing the flight status on the TV above checkin counters even after flight has closed so passengers would not be lost...

First Impressions: Style Over Function

Phu Quoc International Airport may look modern at first glance, but beneath the clean floors and flashy digital screens lies a disorganized and underdeveloped experience. • No central flight information board. Instead of a large screen showing flights, check-in counters, or gates, you’re greeted by a flood of bright digital ads — and very little actual guidance for passengers. • The flight info that does exist is displayed on small, scattered monitors, difficult to read and easy to miss.

⸻

Check-In Area: Confusing and Lacking Basics • There’s no clear signage showing which airline is at which counter. Airline logos are displayed randomly, not connected to live flight information. You’ll likely need to ask staff where to go. • No electronic kiosks, no clear layout — just trial, error, and waiting.

⸻

Limited Seating Before Security • In the pre-security area, there are almost no seats or benches. Passengers often sit on the floor or lean against walls while waiting for check-in to open. • This creates unnecessary discomfort — especially for elderly travelers or those with long waits.

⸻

But Plenty of Seating at the Gates • After security, in the boarding area, there is ample seating. Comfortable enough to wait for your flight — a clear improvement over the check-in hall.

⸻

Gate Confusion & Poor Communication • Our boarding gate changed multiple times, with no public announcements. The only way to know was by watching the screens — which silently updated. • At one point, the screen at the new gate even showed “Gate Closed”, causing confusion and concern. • VietJet Air sent an email, but it was vague and not timely. • If we hadn’t been alert and checking manually, we could have easily missed boarding.

⸻

Final Thoughts: Surface-Level Modern, Functionally Weak

Phu Quoc Airport looks good on the surface, but fails in practical execution: • Poor signage • No useful flight overview displays • Confusing check-in • Zero comfort before security • Communication issues at gates

⸻

Rating: 2.5 / 5

Functional? Barely. Comfortable? Only after security. Reliable? No. The airport needs serious improvement in clarity, passenger comfort, and communication. Until then:

Arrive early, stay alert, double-check everything, and don’t rely on the system...

I would like to share my experience with you about how my family and I went through Phu Quoc Airport. It was a terrible experience. The bribe system is thriving at Phu Quoc Airport. We arrived at the airport at 13:00 and received our boarding passes only at 14:45. They had just two counters open for check-in, intentionally creating long queues and making passengers wait. The main idea was to pressure people into paying a bribe to speed up the process. One of the airport staff approached me and said, “If you want to expedite check-in and get a good seat on the plane, it will cost $50 per person.” For my family, that meant a $200 bribe just to move through the queue faster. Some passengers agreed and paid. This was the first time I had ever experienced such corruption in an airport! Second bad experience – Passport Control After passing passport control, I had some fruit with me—mango, dragon fruit, and passion fruit, each 1 kg. The officers told me I needed to clear customs for it. However, as I had checked in the market and confirmed with a local guide, bringing small amounts of fruit is not illegal. After some discussion, the officer eventually let us go, but it was clear they were fishing for a bribe. Honestly, for my family, this was a shocking experience at this airport! How does the Vietnamese government expect to develop tourism when the airport system and service are so terrible and completely unacceptable for tourists? After such a relaxing and amazing holiday on the island, this kind of treatment ruined the entire experience. Have you ever had a similar experience at Phu Quoc Airport or any other island in Vietnam?
