The Hon Thom Cable Car is a renowned attraction in Phu Quoc, Vietnam, celebrated as the world’s longest 3-wire sea-crossing cable car. Warning warning warning ⚠️ We got trapped on the island against our will for 3 + hours. As it was raining all week we decided to take the cable car on the 8 km round journey. We bought tickets and boarded the cable car around 1:50pm Traveled the 4 km to the water park island with the intention to stay on the cable car for the return journey. It was to our surprise we were told we had to exit the cable car at the halfway mark as it stopped running at 2:00.pm We were forced to stay on the island in torrential rain for another hour and a half. Unfortunately at 3:30pm when we went to line up to get back on the cable car 500+ other people decided to leave at the same time. I imagine because of the rain. The complete chaos and lack of respect from selfish people pushing and shoving trying to get to the front of the queue was too much to bear for people like us who don't like big tight pushing crowds. It took us nearly 2 hours to get back on a cable car to get back home. If you only want to do a return trip on the cable car ensure you have enough time to get to the island and back before one of the three, hour and a half long stoppages throughout the day. For a trip that was going to bring us back to the beginning by 2:15pm, it ended up getting us back just before 6:00pm. Unfortunately being a very wet rainy day likely increases the crowds tenfold wanting to come back at 3:30. The water park may be fantastic and the cable car is amazing. But there is no warning we would go halfway and be told we needed to wait another few hours before we could return. The cable car itself is excellent, the island and amenities fantastic. Getting trapped on an island in torrential rain against your will was not something we expected or agreed on.

Actual cable car ride is pretty cool and definitely worth it albeit pretty expensive and definitely priced for tourists. Getting here is also expensive. Expect the whole thing to cost around 50$ all in for 1 person, less if your share a taxi/grab. Look I don’t know about you but $50 is pretty expensive even in the USA let alone in Vietnam for a 20 minute cable car ride. Vietnam definitely nickles and dimes tourists at every possibility. Comparatively Thailand was much better in that regard and I didn’t feel like I was getting ripped off everywhere just normal local prices. Unfortunately that’s where the positives end. Once you get there there is absolutely nothing to do expect for the water park. For some reasons you’re forced to purchase tickets for the cable car ride and the water park together. I know this is crazy but has anyone ever considered the possibility that some people just want to ride the cable car and aren’t interested in visiting the water park. In short the actual cable car ride is cool (around 20 minutes one way) but if you’re not interested in the water park there is nothing else to do. The food is unsurprisingly overpriced and disgusting at every restaurant, so eat before you come or bring snacks.

The park is still unfinished as of January 2019, but you can still enjoy the cable car ride to Hon Thom (Pineapple) Island. A roundtrip costs 300,000 VND (discounted from 500,000 VND, I'm guessing because the Sun World park is not open yet). Rides start from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with a break from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM. The terminal facilities are very clean, and if you want to eat a proper meal I would recommend dining at one of their restaurants on the Phu Quoc side. Otherwise there is a buffet available at the beach on the Hon Thom side. Even though the park is unfinished and the beach on Hon Thom Island is a bit of a letdown, the cable cable car ride itself is breathtaking. At 25 minutes (I wouldn't mind if it was an hour), it's the longest cable car in the world and spans four islands. The 360 degree views are amazing, so get your cameras ready. The best part is the beginning where you see the boats and their shadows underneath, almost as if they're floating in the air. Views are also going to be dependent on weather conditions, of course. My trip going to Hon Thom had clear blue skies and pristine waters, whereas the return trip was cloudy and made for less beautiful photos.

One in lifetime experience, one I really loved.. A full view of blue sea at the longest cable car built across islands. Love the snorkling area with pretty corals and fishes :) Joined John's Tour on this (recommend you on this tour they have, the guide is good and do speak in English-tho he said he's not good but I think is pretty clear and understandable). So we had take the ride from here to the other end and swim/snorkling across 3areas via speedboat. So when you go, you view from. Top to bottom via cable car. Return back to our van via speedboat so at the end you see the view from down to top. This tour is from 9-4pm. Lunch at one of the beach, not that it taste really good but it's good enough based on the minimal facilities and amendities there. The guide tried to also arrange for you if you are vegan or cannot take any food. If you don't know how to snorkle, he tried to teach you first and practice at the 1st beach area before moving to the snorkling area. Bring along your towel as they do not provide this and have fun!
