Posada El Pucara is located in the foothills of the Traslasierra Mountains. It is only a few meters off the main road from San Javier, but the grounds are so large that there is virtually no road noise for the rooms at this posada.||||The facility was recommended in the Rough Guide to Argentina and we decided to give it a try. We were very pleased with our decision. The grounds are very lovely, with large trees, lawns, shubbery, and a very small golf course. There is also a pool and hot tub. It is very serene just hanging out in the back deck area of the posada; there are lots of birds to watch, including the large green cheeky parrots.||||The rooms themselves are large and have high ceilings. There are A/C units, fans, heaters, lots of storage, and an ample bathroom with a shower. We found the room very clean, updated, and nicely decorated. There was no TV or phone in rooms in this facility.||||The posada has a large breakfast area and lounge for guests. It was all very quaint with plants and antiques. ||||The breakfast was an above average Argentina meal, with breads, jams, juice, yoghurt, fruit salad, and coffee/tea. Unique to the breakfast was a huge assortment of exotic jams to sample. Food was fresh and tasted good.||||The staff were very friendly and helpful. They served us drinks when we arrived in the evening and signed us in. There is covered parking in the back of the posada. The cost was AR $190 per night; very reasonable for such a comfortable and clean accommodation.||||To top it off, there were some great restaurants nearby. Just a few steps down the road was "Cuatro Vientos", a "slow food" Italian restaurant that was astonishing. Equally amazing was nearby "Sabores Que Matan (translation: flavors to die for!)", which lived up...
Read moreSan Javier and Yacanto are very small villages (800 inhabitants added) on the southwestern foot of the Cordoba mountains (highest peak 9000 ft). Pucará is located directly on the main road in Yacanto. It has very nice grounds: a 7 acre garden that used to be a golf course overlooking the Sierra Cordobesa (mountain). A small swimming pool, very nice patio also with mountain view where breakfast is served, a grilling area for guests. The building is colonial style. Rooms are modest with only the beds and a cabinet. No chairs, no table. Clean. All rooms have a ceiling fan but only a few rooms are equiped with air conditioning and TV. Service is very friendly. The house dogs can summarize Pucará: beautiful golden retrievers infested with ticks. Pucara could be much better with little effort...
Read moreWe got a last-minute reservation at El Pucará for the last room they had available. The room was simple, clean and comfortable, and the grounds are magnificent, with a beautiful view of the mountains. They even have something called "Foot Golf," which I didn't get a chance to try, but it looks fun. It's like golf with no clubs. You kick a grapefruit-sized ball towards the holes. Nicolás, the owner, was very helpful in directing us to a hiking trail and finding a great place to eat. We were short of pesos, and the restaurant we wanted to go to didn't accept credit cards, so Nicolás called them up and arranged for us to pay him for the meal with a credit card, for which he would settle later with them. He definitely went above & beyond to insure that our short stay there...
