When we rolled into Villa Maria en route from Buenos Aires to Villa General Belgrano we stopped at the tourist office on the main highway. Our first impression of town and officer were both dispiriting. Dingy is the word. We asked for recommendations, the clerk eyed us and sent us a few blocks to La Republica which was a most pleasant surprise, once you get past the lobby and if you can deal with the poorly located A/C unit. The lobby was dark and worn. The clerk, with redish hair was taciture and someone indifferent. Tired might be the word. He rented us a room for about $100 and up the antique elevator we ascended. The door is tricky, be sure to close it hard. Oh, that door also needs a bit of maintenance, so it is noisy and audible in the room. Ah, the room. Not bad, the red and white bed clothes give the room that Valentine's Day feel, like a box of cheap candy. The bath, however, was more than adequate and there was no view to distract us from rest. Out we went into the night and on to a very charming festival celebrating Christmas, bought a few things and quite enjoyed a square-side ice cream parlor. After an hour of perusing and chatting with the German-speaking St. Nick, we went back to the room. Past Mr. Silent we went, up the noisy elevator, down the worn hallway to the room. After nice hot showers we plopped in bed and turned on the AC. Its vents were trained on the bed. The window unit was immediately next to the bed. The AC unit doused the bed in forceful cold air. It was louder than the elevator. We fiddled with the dials and louvers and finally were able to divert the air, a bit. A well position towel finally did the trick. Sleep. Up and out by 8am, the complimentary breakfast more than made up for Mr. Silence, for the elevator, the scent of dust, the AC unit and the candy bed. On to Belgrano with smiles and funny memories. That elevator was...
Read moreI picked this hotel based on the classification and the pictures I found in the web. Unfortunately pictures can show whatever you want. My stay was really disappointing. First of all the heating system was on and I was unable to sleep, very small rooms and heating system was the hell. On the other hand the Internet was only working on the lobby. Finally I have to say that they have to dramatically improve the rooms to get to the level of quality they...
Read moreWe had a fantastic stay at Hotel Republica in one of their suites. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was excellent; clean, spacious and modern with a lovely bathroom complete with a large bath tub. The bed was very comfortable and huge so we slept very well. Breakfast was available until 10.30am allowing us to have a lie in, which was much needed. The parking was ample and secure. I would definitely recommend this place for a stay in...
