STUNNING! We arrived the Wednesday before ANZAC day, paid at the gates and were told by the lady which campsite we were at, she suggested we could give her a call if we wanted to move since the rangers were still having to do the rounds and notify which campsites are available. She was very nice and professional. When we got to the campground we wanted to move a little closer to the beach (since we had scuba diving gear and it gets heavy) so we called up the lady at the desk and she allocated us to the new spot which she was very happy to do. When the rangers came by they said that we were not allowed there and had to move cause they need space for larger caravans for ANZAC day (this is understandable) but he said that we have to go to the shaded area just for small tents. We suggested we just want to move back to our originally assigned campsite (which was not much further than the one we were at) and he just said no we have to move to the far and shaded campsites 🏕. We showed him our paperwork and showed that we were assigned it and he grunted and just agreed. He came back twice to talk to us and to double check the paperwork, left after a while. The campsite which we were moved from and the 5 other large campsites remained free for the whole day as well as ANZAC day... sooo no one got to be close to the beach entry. (Since two other camp sites were moved from there originally assigned locations) I believe the way the ranger conducted himself could have been less mean and just in a more joyful manner- it may have changed the way people would respond since he was just ordering people around after everyone had all the paperwork to support our sites. The lady at the office was so nice and friendly and very very helpful but yeh the ranger made the experience a little less welcoming. The views are stunning, great location, close to the beach which is all that really matters. I think it was quite busy when we went but not all campsites were filled. I am just disappointed in the way we were treated when getting to the sites (even after calling up and confirming it all with the office and getting everything organised properly) - did not matter to him, his way or no way is the way it seemed to work there. Everything else was amazing - the walk to the beach 🏝 at the end of the campsites definitely worth it!!! All the beaches and sunsets...
Read moreThis has to be one of the most special camping places in NSW.
Accessible only at certain times (it's a live weapons range the rest of the time) it's worth the effort to either get their early on a Friday or go in to the ballot for high demand times such as Australia Day and New Year's etc.
The sites are well positioned and cater for all types of camping but they're not powered and you'll need to bring your own water. Fresh water is available at reception to fill up your containers.
The toilets are porta-loos that are emptied daily and are perfectly good. There are no showers but the sea works wonders!
The bay itself is stunning, especially at sunset and the swimming/snorkeling is wonderful. Heaps of wildlife and you might even see a kangaroo family in...
Read moreWhen we drove last week to this bay we had no idea that it is actually owned by the Royal Navy, and is used for training purposes therefore name Beecroft Weapons Range. Usually it is open for public on a weekends and public holidays but we were lucky that it was open midweek. Bay is picturesque, next to it is camping ground, water is calm and shallow, good for families with kids, however we found it murky. Earlier that day we walked to Target beach and that one was amazing with crystal clear water. On our visit we found next door Bindijine beach much cleaner too. Still we did enjoy shade and hopping kangaroos at Honeymoon bay and it was worth visiting this part...
