Really well run national park camping. Good sites, respectful campers without music blaring/TVs and all the other bogan toys, awesome info centre and helpful rangers. Water from taps is not treated (officially you are advised to treat it) but the rangers drink it, and so did our family without problem. No rats/mice, but the currawongs will snatch food if left in the open! No showers, but you can rinse off in the creek. (Even when fully booked there are frequently no shows, so if you are really in need you could arrive and ask the rangers if there is space at a pinch. The 2 nights we were there I estimate 10% + sites were vacant. ). Walks and Gorge itself...

For some reason we did not have high expectations for the camp ground at Carnarvon Gorge but we were very pleasantly surprised. The sites are large, numbered and the volunteers Franca and Ordi very helpful and receptive. We cannot understand why the camping is only available during Queensland school holidays. Most people there were without kids and from out of state. Perhaps its because the rely on the volunteers who do a great job. And on that note it would be great if Queensland National Parks provided toilet brushes in the loos. People should be able to clean up after themselves. This is really not the job of volunteers. For this reason only we...

This gorge is seriously gorgeous and the walks are so flat and child friendly. The ladders and railings that have been erected to make these beautiful natural features so accessible is just fabulous. We did the Bluff walk too which is less child friendly. GREAT views if you can squeeze that in too! Ward’s Canyon is freezing (only place King’s Fern - world’s largest has survived in SEQ) Moss Garden and Amphitheatre are stunning! Art Gallery is great too with lots of Indigenous info and history....

Carnarvon Gorge is well worth the road trip! A fantastic wilderness region with natural beauty on a grand scale. Plus unique indigenous cultural heritage sites. Stunning trees, flora and birdlife in abundance. The Carnarvon Great Walk is a 85km grand circuit for the bushwalkers. Lots of accessible day walks in the canyon. However, ferral pigs, horses and cattle and cattle and severely impacting the environment.

Carnarvon gorge is simply spectacular. Did four days hiking there and the scenery was stunning. Souring cliffs as you walk through the gorge over the many creek crossings 17 in total.. So much fun. Hike to the top of the bluff was intense but the view was worth it. This place is unmissable if you like nature and hiking. Did find a stick handy to assist with the crossings lots of others used hiking sticks.
