My family and I stayed for three nights in June. The room was not fancy, but we didn’t expect one. The beds were comfortable for sleeping and the sleeping temperature was great with the windows open - screens kept the bugs and critters out. The shower pressure was excellent and plenty of hot water. Moreover, it was clean. The staff members that were from abroad were friendly.||However, there are several negatives:|1. We selected several DVDs from the library to watch in the room and most were scratched to the point of not working. We don’t mind not having broadcast TV but that was a bit of an annoyance as there isn’t much to do after sun downs. |2. We expected breakfast to be simple per the reviews - but it was beyond simple. Only one type of bread available and four cereals with plain yogurt and cut fruit. The fruit was just okay. The coffee was absolutely undrinkable the two mornings we had breakfast, and the water for tea was not even hot. Moreover, when we popped in at 9:05 the first morning, one of the staff members said “We were just about to put the breakfast away” -although the breakfast is advertised as ending at 9:30!|3. However the biggest annoyance for us came from the several groups that were staying on site, who were treated much better than we were:|a. When we arrived, we found out we could only eat in the restaurant at 7 pm, for a party of three. That was because of the many tour groups who were eating that night earlier. We showed up early in the hopes of getting a table - and while there were plenty available, we were told that we could be seated and have a drink, but we couldn’t order until seven. When we finally ordered, I found out they were out of barramundi because the tour groups had eaten it all. Very disappointing.|B. On the last night, we had a few drinks before dinner. Even though they advertise a happy hour, we were relegated to a table by the pool (full of bugs) or a small part of the bar counter due to groups coming in (who we saw getting a welcome drink, something we were not offered).|C. Finally on the last morning when I went to check out , groups were already eating BEFORE the advertised 730 start time - and they were enjoying upgraded breakfast options such as sausages and other hot dishes. We would have gladly paid a little extra to have those options!|In short , this is a hotel that clearlly prioritizes its...
Read moreWe stayed two nights in the family cabin here. We made the mistake of arriving after dark so it was a bit tricky finding the cabin, not to mention the dark windy road to get out to the hotel after crossing on the ferry. It would have been a little more peaceful to arrive before sunset. We thought it was fun they handed us a torch and an umbrella upon checking in. The cabin was large with high ceilings and was very clean without any flying or crawling bugs. There was AC which worked very well and a ceiling fan. We could hear the rain all night which was great. There were flowers and trees and a great atmosphere. Plenty of hot water in the shower, plus tea making things, a table, a small porch you could sit outside and drink your tea. Lovely experience! We were 3 and had plenty of space. We went on the trails outside to the streams although did not swim there. There was a small pool which we did not try. The breakfast that was included was very good and was bread, fruit and yogurt. They also offered scrambled eggs and bacon and other things for additional cost which was very convenient. The coffee in the restaurant was good. There was wifi in the restaurant area but not in the cabin so you could loiter at the restaurant tables if you needed to use wifi. They also had lots of books on the local area and all the tourist brochures for planning your activities. It was very convenient to travel to Cape Tribulation and to the boardwalks in the area from this hotel. Overall it was a delightful experience and I would definitely recommend it. It was really great to go on the boardwalks and explore the area and not have to leave at night. We really enjoyed the restaurant at this hotel also. So nice to be in...
Read moreThis place has so much to offer but delivers so little which is unfortunate when we could see how hard the staff were working to try and make things right for their guests. The location is excellent the lodge itself is nice although in need of some love. We especially liked the swimming hole out front of the restaurant, We are in our sixties and jumped in like we were teenagers and loved it as did the mother and her 3 young boys who were in there at the same time. We had dinner in the restaurant Unfortunately my partner's entrée which she was having as a main came out stone cold and and the octopus was so tough it was not edible, we tried to get the attention of staff to get this sorted but for some reason we were invisible so after about 15 minutes she took the dish herself toward the kitchen where one of the staff took the dish off her and reported back to us another 6 or 7 minutes later asking what we would like to do, well by know my steake meal is also stone cold and the roast potatoes that were placed under the medium rear steak have sucked all the juice out of the steak and a mush so we had both lost our appetites. At the checkout, the manager asked us what our problem was and told us the chef said there was nothing wrong with our food and she added no one else was complaining. We paid the $100.50 for our dinner and went back to our room. She commented again at checkout in the morning that it was unfortunate we didn't like our meals but no one else had a problem with theirs.|That is why I gave one star and would never recommend this resort. There are other great resorts up there that would be...
