get a closer look if your intending to visit this place to help you choose your campsite and what to expect. I posted video YouTube google it. Please note the un sealed road for 4.6km is corrugated at the time of this review, so your going to shake your vehicle and camper alot before you arrive. Before i generalise that there is No mobile service so be sure to book before coming, you can get optus 4G 1bar across the bridge and about 50meters left of it that i could get service, apart from that the closest mobile service is found on the hill at Castle Cove lookout Telstra 2bars. Optus seemed to struggle but further up the hill near Glenaire Cottages turnoff, opposite is a bit of gravel you can stop, got optus 1bar 4G service that was adequate for online internet. toilets were good, not flush. sink to wash had no rainwater, signs say not to rely on, however untreated water tap as shown in the video nearby had a slow flow of untreated water fyi. there is also a picnic day area. March 2025 andbiting little pinhead midges known as sandfly at dusk and dawn everywhere, but thru day didnt seem to be around. Sites 4 to 10 are not big enough for big caravans better no. 1,2 3 4 but for standard caravans will also leave little room at sites 4 to 10, just for small campervans and tents really. Ive seen campervans and motorhomes come when fully booked to see them park in the Day picnic parking which is good as a last resort. Ranger was seen today around 2015hrs, so when they start charging again they might enforce it whereas at the moment free anyway until end of june 2025. hope...
Read moreHi Readers, this is amazing campsite with 3 drop toilets and handwashing sink. Do not forget to close the lid after use because when we went there, we could smell the odour outside. Variety of birds around the river and of course, Koala on tree, if you are lucky enough to spot this sleepy and lazy creature. Campsite 1 and 2 close to each other without any boundary between them. 3 and 4 is opposite to them and have same feature. Best to camp on site 12 and 13 great for large or family group ( with one common fireplace) where as 15 and 16 and privately sheded ( without fireplace). Amazing and open sites from 21-28 in round shape. Personally I like 16 with great facing view and in the corner. We saw one grey cat 🐈⬛ ( may be wild or Abondoned or lost) who frequently came for food and to stay warm around BBQ. To access the beach, cross the bridge and walk for or you can access it with 4WD. Pet friendly sites. To get into the campsite, from main road, gravel road goes inside, be mindful because one vehicle can cross the road and other vehicle has to squeeze/wait. Great for fishing as we saw locals and visitors fishing in the river. Aire River East campground is easily accessible in a minute through the bridge and have...
Read moreCampers on this side were mostly nice, but many were jumping & diving off of the footbridge against the signs telling campers not to do this & also when families were fishing! Many drivers were driving too fast across the little wooden bridge which was dangerous with little one's on the bridge fishing with families, & who often tripped & fell & kids could've been run over. Worse still, some lowlife stole the locking pin out of the D-latch on the chain of our little boat which secures the boat to the tow bar, so we couldn't tow the boat away safely & had to go all the way to Colac to get a new one. Be very careful what you leave unsecured. We were mindful of big ticket items, but a D-latch who would've thought?? Worse again was being told to evacuate the camping ground because the river was going to flood due to the estuary being blocked at the beach entrance to the river, from flowing out to sea, so Parks Victoria needs to urgently fix this as almost everyone...
