I stayed here for a couple days in August this year. The East Camp Ground is close to the Aire River and is the smaller of the two camp grounds available for camping and are managed by Parks Victoria. The road in to the campground while not sealed is well graded and maintained and I had no trouble getting to the campsite where I was staying in our motorhome which was roughly 5km in off the Great Ocean Road. A camping permit is required to stay here and is issued by Park Victoria with the cost being quite reasonable. For two nights I paid $24. There are drop toilets and table and seats within the camping ground but there is no fresh water and all rubbish must be taken home as no rubbish bins are provided. Toilets are drop camp toilets and are cleaned daily by the local Ranger Mon-Frid. No fires are alowed at the camping ground at all. There is an abundance of wildlife to be seen incuding some very friendly kolas and the scenery quite breathtaking. There are many great walks to be had along the river and the rugged ocean coastline. There is also great fishing in the Aire River the river is also popular with canoeing and kayaking. One thing I should point out is there is no mobile or TV service or reception. Overall Aire River East Camping in the Otways National Park is brilliant and would highly...
Read moreVery nice, had a little green grass which was a nice surprise helping to make for a comfortable & clean camp. Lovely trees some very noisy & some other nature including a very cute adolescent koala came to visit. Some campers were ignorant of fure restrictions & ignored no fire & no dog rules, but the campers who lit a fire in very windy conditions continued even after we explained the dangers they were putting all campers in. Mostly quiet and considerate people & families so it was very nice. The only other annoyance was that many who booked sites did NOT turn up & our family were all squashed into one site when the sites we tried repeatedly to book weren't unbooked by non-arrivals. Ut should either incur a redundable deposit if cancelled within 7-days of booking, or a 1st come 1st serve basis. Either works but the current system is...
Read moreGreat flat and well maintained campground with toilets that are well stocked with toilet paper. I noted though that the toilet seat must be higher than your average seat as there were a few 'misses' by campers who visited the bathroom in the middle of the night, so ladies take note! No water in the rain tank (it is a very small rain tank) and the sites were quite close to each other. Might have been the time of year or the weather but we were eaten alive by bugs, so if that is a deal breaker for you perhaps give this location a miss. Saw two koalas in nearby trees which was pretty special. Overall a pleasant stay but we would not stay there again due...
