This is one of the worst hotels I've stayed in, globally. As a background, I stayed here to attend a nearby wedding. There are only a few choices in Eltham so we decided to have a nice week and get a decent room to enjoy. We ended up leaving a day early just to get out of the place. Got a room at a 5 star hotel just outside Melbourne CBD for less than it cost us per night in this place. As we knew several of the other guests at the wedding, many who were staying in the same hotel, we asked them their thoughts on the rooms they had. No one had anything positive to say. Reception was closed when we arrived at 2pm (on a Wednesday), despite signs saying it was open. Stayed in the Marble Room, the 'best' room they have. The smell of the room was awful. Lipstick all over the glasses, plates and cutlery in random draws. Air conditioning was broken. Mould all through the showers, bring some shower shoes with you. Half used shampoo and soap bottles. Broken light fitting above the spa, with electrical socket hanging down. Hope you aren't in the spa when it falls. Smoke alarm for the main room was safely installed...in the back of a kitchen cupboard. Non fire code door handles (and chains), if you manage to wake up before the fire gets you, good luck getting out. Fire escape plan was lost behind the TV. They say they offer 'room service' (and were still advertising this as a selling point). The attached restaurant was closed down and looked in a similar condition to the room. All the couches and seats were filthy, as was the carpet. Main bedroom window (at ground level) was broken and could not be locked and or closed. Great for those 7 degree nights. Also a benefit when there are several drug addicts seemingly living at the motel. Who like to scream and curse at their children at 1030pm. If not that, asking you for drugs and generally harassing the guests. After all that, it's hardly worth mentioning but they also advertise a DVD playing which was no where to be found. There was also no welcome book of any sort. I don't expect a Hilton style binder but something is better than nothing. Additionally they are clearly using old or doctored photos and false advertising on their site. We asked reception for an extra blanket to combat the air conditioning not working. They never returned with it. After hunting them down their response was 'oh, you wanted it now?' That was after waiting for over an hour. At $249 per night (as per their website) you can get a much nicer room at the Adina Pentridge Hotel for less and use the remainder for an Uber or cab. Even if it (somehow) cost you a few dollars more at least you wont get tinea or electrocuted. For anyone who read through all this, and still wants to stay there. All I can say is; good luck. I hope your stay is much better than mine.

My stay at The Eltham Gateway Hotel was far from satisfactory. Upon entering the room, an unpleasant combination of urine, dust, and dampness filled the air. It was clear that the room had not been properly cleaned or maintained. Cobwebs were scattered throughout, and the lack of attention to cleanliness was evident. One notable aspect was the hotel's negligence in promoting its amenities. Information about dinner, breakfast, and other offerings was conspicuously absent. Despite the website's claim of providing internet, no details were provided upon check-in, leaving me in the dark about this basic amenity. Additionally, I was questioned extensively about checking in early, even though there was no clear information available online about the check-in time. The absence of a bedside table lamp and the lack of care for the room's appearance further exacerbated the disappointment. The bedside area, including any form of cleaning, was overlooked. The same neglect extended to the vicinity of the fridge, which was covered in dust and grime. I was taken aback when I decided to utilize the spare pillows from the cupboard, only to find them covered in spider webs. This negligence in housekeeping was truly disheartening. In conclusion, The Eltham Gateway Hotel is in dire need of a significant overhaul. The combination of unpleasant odors, lack of cleanliness, and neglect of basic amenities has left a lasting negative impression. I strongly believe that addressing these issues and revamping the hotel's approach to cleanliness and customer service is essential to improve the experience for future guests. As you can see in the photos the stains on the blanket, dirty carpets and water damedged roofs

Paid $155 per night for the most basic old worn out room dated decor and furniture that belongs on street collect. Imported appliances that are not in English makes me wonder if they are Aust specs. Booked 5 months ago for a family event at location; 2 days before we received a random email saying your room is not available and we are fully booked you will need to stay somewhere else!!! Should have been a warning. After numerous calls & limited English we got a room. Only to discover this place is far from fully booked. Our event was awesome but 2 days later the function room has not been cleaned - that just brings up health issues100% The staff they had managing the bar at the function were more worried about your payment of your drink than what they served you. Seriously no tonic water - no light beers - 1 choice of Red and white wine and bubbles consider of 4 bottles then they ran out. Just simply disorganised. Food was good because it was catered from outside….. So if you love lots of stairs everywhere and don’t mind a dirty old tired rooms with rude admin staff when you ask about things, then this place is for you. So sad I can find a thing to say that was great about the entire complex old broken and typically managed from OS people!!!! Thank god for family who keep us laughing.

The property has potential but still needs a huge cash injection and some professionalism to become what the owner intends it to be. Our room lacked essentials like a room directory to explain hotel and local services, so we discovered too late we could’ve had breakfast on site rather than seeking pricey Uber eats. But only on some days, and who knows which days these are. The booking app said they offer room service but, without a directory, there was no indication of what. The room was renovated in the last few years but the dark glossy furniture was already chipped on the edges as it isn’t fit for purpose, and because of false drawer panels and sharp edges, I ripped a nail off trying to open a drawer that wasn’t one, and opened up my lower leg on the sharp corner of the bed concealed by the sheets and mattress over hang, just before I needed to leave for a wedding, which was deep and took some time to stop bleeding. There was no full length mirror to check for wardrobe malfunctions, nor a good light to check grooming/makeup in. The novelty frosted window between bathroom and bedroom revealed a dirty, smeared window when not frosted - something elbow grease, water and a micro fibre cloth would easily solve. Sealant in the bathroom was inconsistent in colour, mouldy in the shower, and mostly looked like it had been applied with a spoon rather than the usual piping gun. The tap spout had disconnected from the sink so had to be held with two hands to move the lever. When we moved the armchair from a corner to sit and eat at the table, it was clear it hadn’t been moved to vacuum behind for at least 6mths according to the amount of dust along the skirting board. When leaving, the path to reception was completely blocked at one point by cleaning equipment outside a room door. The expansive grounds need a full time gardener, as it’s clear they’re rarely attended to at the moment, and in some places, tarps cover goodness knows what on lawns. There was even a mattress out on the front lawn on arrival - budget accommodation option? Until something changes, I cannot see professional companies seeking their conference facilities as it’s barely budget standard - I was, at the very least, grateful for what appeared to be clean white sheets and pillow slips - the same couldn’t be said for the makeup marked doona between the sheets. And the late hours of office reception were appreciated when a taxi blockade to Uber drivers at the airport delayed our arrival. And staff were friendly - so there is potential for better...

I had 23 guests stay at the gateway for my wedding of the weekend 15th-17th of March. I have to say please DO NOT STAY AT THIS PLACE!!!!! The service was shocking. First night we stayed we noticed wires poking out of the wall, power points not working, a pair of mens socks behind curtains and hair ties, chocolate wrappers and inches thick with dust behind the bed, mould in the showers in several of the rooms and the list goes on. The windows in the family room look like they haven't been clean for a couple of years, badly stained carpets, dish cloth that looks like its been there for years and is mouldy, furnishings and walls damaged and old. In a few of the rooms that 4 people were staying in they had only two towels so we had to ask for more. My Matron of Honor was awake all night scratching in bed so who knows if they regularly change the bedding after seeing all that filth. My son was bitten by something in his bed and had an alergic reaction where his ear swelled up double the size of the other needing to go to the doctors and even after nearly 3 weeks is still infected. Paid for a hillview room to stay in on the night of my wedding and was so disappointed that it was worse than the other rooms. Dirty and old shower and a spa that doesnt pump properly which makes me sick to the stomach wondering whatis caught up in the jets. Load music and hoons coming back from other weddings and partys in the car park late at night and ppl vomiting. Ridiculous! Then to top it all off 3 days after checking out they charged my credit card for things consumed by guests that previously stayed there. Not only am I writing this bad review I think its time for the health department to pay you a visit. SHAME ON YOU! ABSOLUTELY DISCUSTING both with hygiene and customer service. You should...
