We drove to Northampton for dinner, just to try something different. We hadn't intended to try the Railway tavern but after ordering a drink at the first establishment we left: - my wife's house Shiraz was undrinkable and I had ordered a dry ginger ale and neither of us could work out what I was served, so it was one sip of our drinks and we left and ended up at the Railway Tavern. |What a wonderful surprise. The atmosphere was ultra relaxed and one immediately felt a sense of ease. There were even table clothes on the tables.|The range of food was what one would call "Pub Food", but they did it very well. I was taken aback by looking at what graced the plates of the other diners - large exciting looking dishes.|My wife was not hungry so only ordered an entre. The wingdings were just that - 3 large wingdings with aioli. All good, but done a little differently.|I ordered the Aussie Parmi and I can say it was delightful. It was a large crumbed piece of chicken that I could actually taste the flavour of the chicken. It was done with a fried egg, bacon and ham and cheese and here is where it was different to other "parmis", it wasn't smothered in a taste disguising commercial tomato sauce. There was a hint of tomato sauce. All flavours could be tasted and complimented each other. At time of putting this review together I have just finished the remainder that I couldn't eat and had taken home - tasted great for breakfast. Also the salad was fresh and the chips were not coated in salt.|Another great selling point for the Railway was the friendly service. |Overall we could not fault the place, impressed with the food, service and ambience. We agreed it was a place you would be happy to take friends to.|If you are looking for something to eat and you are in Northampton do yourself a favour and DO NOT MISS attending this place. Well done to the...
Read moreThe room was musty, smelt of bathroom cleaner, the mattress is all hard and lumpy springs, no soft buffer between springs and my body. not at all soft. Unbelievably uncomfortable. I dont think it is meant to even be a top mattress?? I didn't know you could get mattresses this awful these days. It must be very old. The sheets are the cheapest synthetic crap money can buy. The room is rough and paint job unfinished. And the ensuite is old and toilet has a smell to it. Would be acceptable if it was half the price. Absolutely not worth $175. Lacks the charm it once had as an old building as they've tried to make it into a more modern style, but without any modern comforts. The detergent smell on the pillow is awful. Two pillows only. One pillow is foamy and lumpy and the other is a wierd shaped foam thing. Definitely wishing we just put our tent up across the road at the caravan park. Would have been much more comfortable. How the hell do they get a 4 star rating?? 2 at best surely. And i'm not too fussy but this is well below average. Very disappointed and very uncomfortable. Thus I am writing this review rather...
Read moreWhat to say about this place…rustic, yeah rustic works. Looks it’s a bit of an ongoing project at the moment having to pretty much having to be rebuilt after the cyclone a fee years ago.|The pub and restaurant are pretty good and the food was actually pretty good for pub grub. Good selection of beers and spirits on offer and a menu with something for most folks.|Accomodation is a bit odd as it is accessed via the main courtyard beer garden and the shower/bathroom amenities are shared with the pub patrons. Rooms are pretty basic but adequate just expect a bit of noise up until 9pm when they close. Oh and say hello and give Billy the goat a pat.|If the repair works continue it has potential with a real old world frontier feel about it.|I would personally be happy to stay again but it’s not...
