Ocean Ridge Retreat — Hotel in Port Fairy

Stayed there recently ( mid July ) We stayed in Accommodation that had exclusive use of Heated Swim Spa, that was lovely but was between our Villa & the other Villa, tried to not make to much noise but was hard ( with kids) when playing music, hard to be heard over water jets. Gas heater in Villa was beautiful, kept us very comfy, had air con up stairs in Room with Double or Queen bed also 3 single beds in another room. In room on ground floor, No air con or even a fan. Beds were extremely FIRM as were Pillows. We didn't like them. We thought that as we were staying for 4 days they would give us fresh bathroom towels, after 2 days we went to the laundry on site & washed them along with the towels needed for the Spa. ( Clean towels are supplied at a Motel ) Only 2 washing machines & 2 Dryers for 4 Villas ! Villa was quiet nice & clean with a few cooking things supplied like pots pans, dishes ( & salt, pepper ) No hand towel or paper towel so need to take them. There was a BBQ but table was between the 2 Villas to share. No Pergola to sit under & No carport, it rained while there & front verandah was very wet so inside villa got wet when we went inside, No mop, to do...

Unfortunately l didn't get to stay at Ocean Ridge in Port Fairy, l booked a 3 bedroom villa for my brother and l at Christmas from their website. I had a confirmation email and half the cost was debited from my credit card, so it was a shock when l received an email from the owners stating that our booking was to increase by nearly $500 as they hadn't upgraded their fees to cover the holiday period! They also said that 'l could understand' that it isn't feasible to charge what l initially got the villa for and l was welcome to cancel. I did say to them that l believed that we had a professional agreement once they accepted my booking and money but l was told that they have the right to do what they did as guests often cancel on them. I'm not sure if it's legal, somehow l think they have done this before, it's certainly not ethical and obviously l had no choice but to cancel, they will rent it out now to someone who is unaware of being taken advantage of. Things didn’t look good when we drove up to see a for sale sign at the entrance||As other people have commented very very impersonable as check in done on a computer screen in a shed.||We knew from photos it was going to be quirky and it is.||Our main complaint was the cottage we had been allocated stank of curry. Bearing in mind you are basically sleeping in the kitchen it was horrendous. When we got in touch with letting agents were advised to open the windows (which were already open when we arrived) and put on the fan. Don’t usually complain and have travelled widely but compelled to do so in this instance.||Property is also very out of town. Our advice don’t book here. Drive into Port Fairy where you will find some accommodation that is 5 star standard and has restaurants within walking distance.||We would echo a previous complaint that the impersonal booking makes it more challenging to sort out any issues.
