We are obliged to stay in Tennant Creek for 7 days waiting for a car part. After camping for two nights, we needed a bit of TLC, so we called Bluestone Hotel in Tennant Creek. The woman that I spoke to originally.. At about 9am, was lovely and understanding our predicament, she said the superior room $240/night, was ready and we can come any time. I was soon called back by a man, asking for my CC details.. I gave the detailson by mobile, even though I had not signed or received anything from them by email... Silly me... But ||we just neded a decent rest after a fair bit of stress. We are not young.. Then, within 30 min, the man rang back on a private number saying my cc did not work. He actually tried to take out $ 980 dollars without informing me. Now I get it.. One night as guarantee.. But 4 nights... I told him I have to approve for that amount, and that i had no idea he would try to take the total money. I apologised, stupidly. said I'd see him at 11am...it was 10.30. As we drove to the hotel, I called to tell him we are on our way.. And his disgusting verbal abuse began. I asked to speak to the manager.. He said he was the manager. We were taken aback at his dominant smug tone and humiliating narrative. He said basically we have no choice, he denied that a woman works there and implied I was lying, His attitude was arrogant and condescending. He said... that's the way it's done in this small town. He said I cannot access the room until he says and I was permitted to wait in the outdoor area until he says. He was degrading toward me, I felt humiliated and belittled. My husband refused to be further humiliated and we moved on. The police have been informed about his behaviour. I was further obliged to cancel my visa, as he tried to access the money twice without any approval from me, and I am sure he would have kept trying to rob me if I had not cancelled my visa. This was done on the advice of my bank. . We are happy to say we did not stay at this...
Read moreWe have stayed here before and nothing has changed. It probably is the best place in town so this says a lot about the other places. Our room was big and the bed a king bed was quite comfy. Cleanliness of the room was average with the toilet having a nice dirt water ring around the water line. Yuk! The shower was hot but there was no mat to stand on so the risk of falling was accentuated. This motel caters for tour groups and workers. The tour groups get precedence of feeding as others like us have to wait until they have been fed. The workers are wonderful when they start their trucks as 4am and let them idle and sometimes get revved before they go to work. The gate is closed as 8pm and not opened again until 7am unless you like the workers have a key. As for the food. I had a steak, was ok a bit over cooked but still palatable. My wife decided on a Greek salad. Well there is no was this was a Greek salad. It was full of leaves, a few olives, some tomato and a smattering of feta. A real let down but gee it was an expensive let down. We decided on breakfast - another mistake. Poached eggs on toast - we were the only ones waiting in the dining room and it took 30 minutes to get them. And yep we paid heavily again for this folly $34.00 plus credit card fees for 2 servings of 2 eggs and 2 toast on each. As for the wifi forget it. It’s not worth trying to log on. You are off line more than you are on line and that wasn’t the busy time. There was no microwave or toaster in the room. Here’s a tip that I sorted first and that is do not pay your meal and drink bill until you are finished or you will be paying transaction fee charges every time you buy a drink. This place knows they have the...

On Sunday 1st Feb 2015 we arrived at another pre-booked accommodation (to remain un-named) and were horrified at the reality of it...
We went along to the BlueStone Motor Inn to escape for a while and get a meal...
We were greeted by the lovely Aleshia in the Restaurant, seated and waited on very capably with nothing but well informed professional smiling hospitality...
The contrast between our pre-booked accommodation and the BlueStone Inn had us cringing at going back there, so we chatted Aleshia about vacancies with her, and within minutes she had us keys in hand to inspect 2 room options, both of which were immaculate and well appointed.
We decided on the spot that with 10-12 hr driving days behind and in front of us that we were better off to walk away from our (already paid for) horror booking and to spend a very reasonable tariff on this alternative to get a good nights rest.
Although we stumbled in hungry, tired and frazzled after 2 days travelling with 2 children Aleshia never batted an eyelid as she capably ran the Restaurant and Office, and nothing was a hassle for her!
We still don't actually know if she was Restaurant staff or the Inn Manager (such was her knowledge, capability & professionalism), but her employer should count themselves very lucky to have her fronting the daily operations at Bluestone.
I did try to find a review page on their own site and couldn't :-( but hope visitors browsing this booking site at least will get an up-to-date review of how this modestly priced accommodator is catering to those travelling through Tennant Creek in 2015.
Definitely worth a look in :-)
oh...and our dinner...
