Sorry to give a bad review but unfortunately we were dismissed from our campsite at 7pm last night.

We were approached by two people who must work for Parks and Wildlife, who spoke to us in a extremely rude manner once they had realised we had not paid to camp.

We understand that we were at fault after being informed that this place was not a free facility. We did tried to explain to the very stubborn lady who wouldn’t let us speak; that we had screenshots from a credited parks and wildlife page that directed us to the destination and that NO FEES applied. But as we didn’t have cash we offered our rego and to pay by eftpos card in the morning. But that wasn’t good enough.

So after a extremely long drive to what we thought was going to be a great weekend, we packed our camp up quickly and moved along down to Collie and booked in to a lovely motel as we didn’t want to get rudely asked to move on again.

We completely understand now that we hadn’t done a whole lot of research and should have “known that nothing is free there” . But we didn’t deserve to be treated like we had disturbed or mistreated the camp grounds or spoke in a unfriendly manner to them or other camp goers. We know it must be hard to keep people out that GENUINELY DO KNOW, it isn’t a free facility, but for us who didn’t, but now do; should be given the benefit of the doubt that maybe we GENUINELY DIDNT KNOW ! And spoken to politely as manners are everything ! Other than that..... Lovely grounds and beautifully maintained... but unfortunately the way we were spoken to and to be dismissed after a long time on the road. (plus the risk of my partner being caught drink driving as we had set up at 1pm and weren’t expecting to be kicked out) Completely wrecked our weekend. Please everyone do your proper research so you don’t get spoken to and belittled...

I've been to two of the better spots in the campground; one had direct water views and the other was more private (both in the Gilgi Loop). All sites have a table and firepit.

I have a 4WD with a rooftop tent and both sites were very large and accommodated my setup well.

Activity-wise, it's a perfect spot for bird watchers, there is a pump track for mountain bikers and water access is a short and easy walk. There are no motorised vessels within 100m of the shore near the campground but a bit further down is a boat launch area.

Drop toilets were clean but the overgrown path to get to one of them is terrifying at night when it gets shrouded in spider webs and creepy crawlies. If all spots are taken, there is no choice but to use that path, otherwise it's safer to cut through one of the adjacent camp sites (in the middle of Gilgi Loop). I'm sure everyone would benefit from a dedicated path to the toilets, especially at this higher price point!

I keep coming back to this place for relaxation, beautiful views and lovely water...

Plenty of campsites to choose from. Undercover cooking area with stainless steel bbq and a long stainless steel bench. Was spotless the night we used it. Water needs to be boiled. There are a few sets of drop toilets. Each camping spot seemed to have its own picnic table and steel fire pit with Billy hanger and steel cooking plate that could be swung over the fire as needed. Local flying pests are deterred by Off! Or aeroguard. There is a mountain bike track within stones throw of campsites good for those that are VERY confident on their bikes. The gravel was a bit much for our new riders to overcome, they chose to run it on foot instead. Tree are fabulous, sheltering from winds coming across the water to a pleasant breeze within campsite, but still giving water glimpses from many campsites. Kiosk is only a few...

Beautiful spot on Wellington Dam that's hard to beat Nestled amongst the trees, it is only a short walk to the water from the majority of campsites, and there are nearby picnic tables and bbq facilities also. Facilities are well maintained and clean (in most cases) and the sites usually attract the more social type of visitors if you're not shy about a beer and a yarn with your neighbours Highly recommend for singles, couples and families - thumbs up!

Great spot to camp, but the fire rings are small and don't even think about trying to use tent peg's in certain spots. For caravans hopefully you can get a decent sized level spot as some are tight and have a fair amount of shade from the trees which isn't ideal if you want to run just off solar. Take a Genset as back up and have a star link if you want reception for work or streaming services as coverage on mobile devices are sketchy.
