after planning a two week tour from s.a to victoria along great ocean rd and up to the grampions and back my brother, his family and kids and myself and husband bought new caravans and booked our holiday, first park at pt fairy from sept 22 and leaving on sept 27 to arrive at wye river big 4 caravan park which we booked from sept 27 and leave on 2nd oct,we made our booking back in may 2012 ,so yep at pt fairy lovely park having fantastic time, we get a call from wye river asking us where we were and why we hadnt arrived we explained we werent arriving until 27th as that was our bookingthen told that no our booking was 22,we had email confirmation and deposits paid for 27th, the man at the park then said that we had changed our bookings, which in no way did we, after frustrating conversation on the phone were told we would have to be phoned back next day to make sure we still had bookings, this was not good enough as we were in victoria already and needed this booking confirmed.so next day a man named andy rang us stated he had messed up booking and it was being rectified and yes we had sites booked but had lost the concrete sites we booked as it was the grandfinal weekend, umm we not there for grandfinal we on touring holiday so dont see why our sites should change but ok accepted other sites, so next day we get another call saying they were changing our sites again,,not sure why but ok we still had sites, so on 27 we follow great oacean rd all way to wye river and pay our 5 days only to find that thaey have shoved us down the very back of the park, the last two powered sites and furthest from any ammenities, but hey still good until we try to back our 22 ft vans on to wat too small sites,we had to ring office and ask if someone could come and cut some branches off a tree so we could fit, that took a good 20 mins to get staff to come ,the sites opposite were roped off ,and as we needed ths area to pull into to back our vans in we took down 2 poles and rope. the bald headed staff man yelled at us for doing this, i replied well how the hell do you expect our large vans get into these tiny sites, please put us back on our original concrete sites we booked and paid for, he yelled at me, i told him please hurry up and get a saw so that we can get the branches cut and get our vands in at least, what a rude man he shouldnt be working in a hospitality position,we did intene on putting the rope and poles back up, the wholefour days poured and the sites were like slushy mud holes campers from everywhere trying to shift or pack up and leave very disgruntled customers everywhere, no sullage on power sites or drainage, a very poor run park and the staff were so rude, another family across from us arrived and realising how wet and muddy and awful sites were didnt set up and asked for a refund ,were told no so they also had to endure a shocking few days i was under impression the big 4 guarantee was a refund within 3 hrs of arriving if not happy but i will check with big 4 on this for confirmation ,tried also to get our gas bottle filled were told at desk a 20 min wait that was no problems hubby waited and then the office rang through to maintence again to let them know we were still waiting and man yells back well theyll have to wait another 20 im busy, he finally came and my hubby goes out to him to get if filled and he says hang on mate i got stuff to do and went and fed his face, yep great customer service,NOT would never recomend this park to any body dont waste your hard earnt wages on this park if you want a lovely holiday and as for the bald man you need some customer service training or get out of this business.we then proceeded to halls gap park gate and spent a lovely 5 days in a friendly well run park by big 4 there that made the end of our holiday fantastic so cudos to...

We had a tent camping trip with friends. The site we were allocated was 156, which was 8m × 12m—plenty of room for our Coleman Northstar 10p tent. The site itself was clean and about 4 meters from the river bank. There is very, very little light pollution from the surrounding homes, so you can be assured of very dark nights; during our visit, it was cloudy and rainy, and there was no moon, so it was very dark during that time. I suspect that during cloudless nights the stars can be very clearly seen.

The amenities are, as by their reputation, very, very good—it does get muddy but that's to be expected with so many campers. They are cleaned very regularly (seems to be twice a day) so one always can count on clean surrounds. I like it that they provide plenty of refrigerators in the camp kitchen for us to store our uneaten leftover food. I like it that they provide dishwashing liquid as well. We did not have the opportunity to use the laundry block so cannot speak for certain, but if judged for their care for the amenities block and kitchen I can guess that it would be pretty good, too. The only thing we wish were better was the quality of the tap water—we felt obliged to buy casks of water from the General Store or elsewhere for drinking.

The one other good thing about this park is that they allow campfires—either in the hired out fire pits or in your own fire pits (if they are pre-approved). I do not understand their logic with allowing heat beads but not allowing lump charcoal, but I suspect it has to do with heat beads having a known BTU. We loved going to the beach, which is accessible from the entrance of the park and just across the road.

The General Store can provide most of what you need, but do not rely on it to provide all your supplies. Some have said that the goods are overpriced, but our recent experience is that they are reasonable considering how remote the town and the store is from both Lorne or Apollo Bay.

As far as our camping trips go (which we've been doing since 2018), this was the most enjoyable and relaxing. We will definitely come back for more tent camping in the future (although we'll probably request to have our site go beside that of our fellow...

Wow what an amazing park. The location is well placed for visiting the sites along The Great Ocean Road. The caravan park itself is tucked back off the main road, set in a beautiful valley surrounded by woodland, with the Wye River winding its way through the grounds. Just across the road is a beautiful safe beach with plenty of room, and lots to interest visitors from exploring the rock pools, walking along the shore to the historical jetty, relaxing on the beach or catching the surf. Near the entrance to the caravan park is a general store and a great coffee shop, and the local pub is just a short walk up the hill. The caravan park is immaculate. The grounds are well cared for and attract an abundance of wildlife. During our stay we saw at close hand kangaroos, echidnas, koalas, ducks, goats, kookaburras, and an array of beautiful birds. There is a track which goes through the woods around the perimeter of the park which is great for walking or cycling. There are also lots of local walking tracks to explore. Upon arrival you are greeted in reception with smiling, helpful, knowledgeable staff. Claire checked us in and made us feel very welcome with her relaxed, friendly manner, and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The facilities are immaculate and spacious. The amenities are cleaned regularly and to a very high standard. The camp kitchen has everything you need, and plenty of space. The children have a fantastic play area with climbing apparatus and a large jumping pillow. There are also go carts to hire! We were treated to an outdoor movie night which was magical, sat under the stars with such a great crowd of people. And we also enjoyed a music evening along with small foodie stalls, a pop up bar and the manager Carl on his ice cream cart providing ices and sweet goodies for the children (and adults!). The staff give 110% to ensure their guests are looked after. Nothing is too much trouble and you are guaranteed service with a smile. We have travelled much of Australia and stayed in many caravan parks and this one outshines them all. Well done Big 4 Wye River. Our stay was...

A fantastic almost self-contained park. Check In: Smooth and friendly providing all the info we needed and gave us the best available position to suit our van size etc. Site: Nice wide roads allowing for easy reversing with the river on our doorstep. Plenty of ducks and kangaroos visiting us. Amenities: New toilets blocks new and very clean with a seperate family one to safely take your little guys for washes and toilets. All new washers and driers with tap and go payment. The camp kitchens are awesome to say the least. an indoor and semi outdoor all new. There is an activities centre and games room with anything from car racing to air hockey. Peddle karts, basketball and beach and water sport hire all available. The river itself is very shallow and would be safe with parents watching for the littlest to play in. Location: The pub is 50m up the road with a fair range of local beers and awesome views. We didn't try the food as I couldn't find a positive review. There is a sensational grocery store opposite with everything and more available and a cafe serving great food all opposite the beach. Other than that is a 20min drive either way to other shops. Other Tips: Bring or book a fire pit in the colder months and the local store has plenty of firewood. Don't bother with bikes unless your super steep hill fit. But bring your beach and surf gear and hopefully you will get some waves. Other than that it a fairly self-contact town. Go Stay There!

Perfect relaxing camping getaway. The Wye River Big 4 is in the idyllic location of Australian bush where a meandering river meets the ocean along the Great Ocean Road. The wildlife in the park is phenomenal. We had two koalas in the tree across from our powered site which gave the kids and adults immense fun. There were also an abundance of cockatoos, currawongs and kookaburras also providing great entertainment. The kids loved the goats to feed as well as the play grounds and activities. The amenities at the park are the best we’ve encountered despite visiting many other Victorian camp spots, trips across the Nullabor and to Tasmania. They are new, clean, bright and will plenty of cubicles for peak seasons. The staff were by far the highlight and made our trip what it was. We were staying for my 30th birthday and were joined by a large group of friends and family. We were all looked after very well and the staff did everything in their power to ensure we had the best time. Most of our group had not been before but vowed to return due to falling in love with the place. The local café nearby also has great coffee and food. We also thoroughly enjoyed the walk to Separation Creek about 1.5kms away. Great way to soak up the Great Ocean Road landscape and get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Thanks to the team at the Wye River Big 4 – you made turning 30 a magical experience.
