Probably the best view from a pub on the GOR. Also probably the worst food I have eaten on the GOR. For a place that markets itself like a gastropub, charges prices of a higher end restaurant and writes a menu that sounds awesome - it just doesn't follow through with expectations. We ordered the Parma x 2. Whilst we might have been impressed that the Parma came out in under 5 minutes especially since there were about 20 people who had just ordered ahead of us. The speed at which the food came out should have served as a warning of what was about to be the worst Parma I've ever eaten. We go out for parmas all around Melbourne every couple of weeks with a bunch of friends. So I know what constitutes a decent one. This was not one of those. I'm guessing it was pre-cooked as it came out so quickly. Then topped with some flavourless sauce, Kraft cheese and ham, chucked under the grill for about a minute until the cheese was barely melted and served. Chips were great though! The breadcrumbs on the Parma were like they were crumbies from the supermarket. I thought maybe we were being overly fussy about the quality. But random people around us who ordered the Parma were saying the same things. Basically, my advice is - don't order the Parma. We didn't...
Read moreWith an incredible location and views, this place could be amazing and even a destination. Strong emphasis on the 'could'. Clearly taking advantage of there being no other options nearby, the service is indifferent and not particularly welcoming, food is awful and tasteless (clearly from frozen ingredients), drinks/wine selection is bad, facilities are unclean. And yes, they are absolutely overpriced. Example, their chardonnay by the glass was retailing at $14 - for wine that is $6 for a whole bottle. Even in Melbourne you wouldn't get away with that. Ambience is also somehow depressing and like a school canteen in the dining area. The balcony views are lovely though. I reckon get some supplies from Wye General store and have a picnic on the beach instead. Fair warning too, the information about the 'fine-dining pop up' on their website which includes the option to book is actually two years out of date. There is absolutely, 100%, no fine dining to be had. Apparently the staff have been 'unable to delete' the info. For two years. Lol. I can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay there so I've given 3 stars for that...
Read moreIt’s a mystery how this place has an average of 4 stars. We were warned by a local about how overpriced and terrible the food was, but by that stage the general store was closed and we were too tired to drive into Lorne for supplies. I’m more than happy to pay for good quality, well-prepared food, but this was not that by any stretch of the imagination. Calamari from the “light” section of the menu consisted of about 6 rings on a meagre bed of rocket and radicchio, no dipping sauce ($22). As it wasn’t available as a main, I ordered a bowl of chips to go with it ($13), which were so over-cooked they were almost see-through . My partner’s Parma ($33) was generous but super dry. As others have said, the view is great and the staff are nice enough, but I was there for the food, not the view. All in all a really disappointing experience. The two stars are for the staff and the reasonably fast service considering how busy it was. Stick to a drink on the deck and seek...
