Villa Egger is situated in the mainly pedestriansed village of Lofer, about 35-40 minutes drive from Salzburg Airport.||||We couldn't find the Villa on arrival (12:10) so parked the car in the village and looked around to locate it! Check in time was 12:00 but the door was locked and no answer on either of the phone numbers we had so moved the car to their car park and returned whereupon someone noticed us through the glass in the door and alerted the receptionist to our presence! The car park is located at the side of the property separated from it by a footpath. There is room for approx. 8 cars but if it's full use the free public car park just a few meters behind it.||||It is only 2-3 minutes walk from the Lofer Gondola, 5 minutes from the local Spa shop and near a few nice little restaurants. There is an Italian restaurant located within the property and we had nice pizzas there one night.||||Our room was very pretty, quiet, warm (even with the radiators turned off) and clean with plenty of hot water in the 70's style bathroom! Bed was comfy and although only one very soft pillow per bed was supplied, the housekeeper asked if we wanted more the next morning. Note there is no hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities or alarm clock supplied (but local church bells chime at 7am if you want a wake up call, if not bring earplugs!) Wifi was free, sometimes a bit slow and the TV's only English language channels was BBC World and another news channel.||||There was a heated ski storage room in the basement with toilets next door and only a few steps from the car park so you could spend the last day on the slopes and come back and get changed after checkout time to maximise skiing time!||||Breakfast was served 7:30 - 10am and was continental with a good choice of cereals, fresh and dried fruit, yoghurt, meat and cheeses, juices, spreads and jam, pastries and bread (and a toaster) There was also the option to have freshly boiled eggs if you wanted.||||Not all staff speak English so some basic German is useful but the staff are lovely and friendly and happy to help in any way.||||We based ourselves here for a short break so we could ski other resorts in the area. Lofer itself is fine for a quiet family ski trip but good skiers will find the area limited after 1-2 days, however we would happily return here...
Read moreA wonderful friendly welcome from owner Claudia who was happy to help us (my wife and teenage daughter) at any time.||This hotel is situated in the perfect position just yards from the ski school and cable lifts to the slopes. The beautiful church is close by and it's bells wake most if the town up at 730 daily. Good alarm clock.||Rooms are spacious, clean and wonderfully warm. Chocolates and homemade biscuits on arrival which was a nice surprise as was a small bottle of bubbly each on New Years Eve to toast 2014 in that evening.||Breakfast was plentiful and continental style. Claudia makes boiled eggs to order and soft or hard. Always perfect. So many fresh bread types to choose from, cold meats, cheeses, cereals, pastries, fruit, juices and coffee/ tea freshly made. Yum yum!||Ski room was excellent. Spacious and secure. Easy walk to lift with all your skiwear on.||There is a pizza restaurant connected to Villa Egger but tried to eat there our first night to be told it was fully booked but it was empty when asking and when returned. Strange, but never did find out why we were not welcome. Plenty of lovely places to eat in the town with the Dankl being a favourite....great thin based pizzas and they will do take out. Great place for cake and coffee too with lots of other dishes to choose from. Superb cakes though! ||A local spa available to buy yourself provisions if needed. Closes early on New Years Day at 2.||New Years Eve and New Year's Day eve celebrations are fantastic with great fireworks and show from instructors and snow ploughs.||Picturesque town with streams running through it. A stunning place to stay.||Would definitely return to Lofer and Villa Egger. I would consider a Summer holiday here too....
Read moreOur stay got off to an odd start, as the B&B was locked, even though we'd said exactly what time we would be arriving. Thankfully, a passer-by told us to ask at the haberdashery across the street and someone let us in. It would have been nice to have been warned about this in advance! ||||Lofer itself is a really cute little village, and its only two minutes walk to the cable car if you're a skiing fan. ||||There's a lovely Italian restaurant downstairs which I'd definitely recommend, as the food and service was excellent. There is a noise from the restaurant until about 10pm, but after that the B&B is very quiet. ||||Our room was old-fashioned in style, but clean and tidy. I found the bed to be VERY hard though, and had to borrow a duvet to lay on. Also, there is a headboard at both ends, so it wouldn't be great for anyone who is over 6 foot tall. ||||There's no hairdryer, but there is WiFi in the rooms and a small TV with mainly German-speaking channels (as you'd expect). ||||Breakfast was continental style (ie. cereals, bread, pastries, cheese, ham etc) and pleasant, and all the staff were lovely...
