Pros: very good breakfast and great location. It’s not directly at the center of town but just a ways up so that you don’t get quite the crowd but still are only a half a mile walk to the ski lift. The hotel also offers ski storage at Jennwein by the lift, so there’s no need to drag your skis back to the hotel, and there’s a separate room to dry your boots.
Cons: the walls are thin and you can hear people moving around upstairs. I’m not sure whether I got the cheapest room, but it barely touches 3 stars. However, I grant that accommodations by ski resorts have inflated prices. The room itself was decent sized for one or two people, the beds were comfortable, but there was an odd unwashed smell in the room upon check-in. The shower was also tiny and the water temperature wasn’t stable. The room itself had bad lighting; I definitely felt like I was in sort of a basement room, which wasn’t the most pleasant.
The service was mostly fine; I think the front desk lady was pleasant for the most part. I didn’t really like it when room service came into change towels despite me being in the room. Maybe Austrians need more directness, but in most parts of the world, you don’t need to state that you’d like for them to come some other time. The cleaner just came in despite me stating she didn’t need to, and changed the towels and cleaned the bathroom. I thought that was odd.
Lastly, and this left kind of a big sour taste, and also why I am giving the hotel a three rather than a four, is because of my interaction with Philip, who was the front desk person at check out. I hadn’t really interacted with him up to this point, but I really didn’t like the way he handled me asking if I could get another day on the Epic Pass because I had lost my pass on my final day in the morning, which meant I wasn’t able to ski the entirety of that day. I understand if the response is a no, because that would cost the hotel money, but the entire tone of the conversation was very cold. It was as if he was implicitly saying that it was very dumb of me to ask this, and it would be another 78 Euros.
Regardless of whether Philip actually intended this or not is besides the point. I think most people in this situation would want to hear, “We’re sorry, but we can’t accommodate this because it’s a fixed cost.” At the end, Philip just kind of tossed down my final invoice.
I don’t think I’m wrong to want more kindness from a hotel that prides itself on its service. And I really don’t want to hear that Europeans are more direct, and that Americans are too sensitive. There are certain areas where you just know that you weren’t treated with actual decency. It’s not something you can completely put into words, but you know it happened. I’d like to place the burden on Philip and the staff to reflect on this because otherwise, it would make me think twice about...
Read moreI came to St Anton for a friends trip and stayed at Hotel Rosa Canina - we were blown away by the hospitality, convenience and overall excellence of our stay. This is a family run hotel by the kindest family - Phillip, Sandra and Peter - who all make it a point to ensure your hotel stay is nothing short of amazing.
The rooms are clean, spacious, updated and cleaned daily - nothing better than coming home from a long day of skiing to a fresh room. The #2 bus also stops conveniently right outside of the hotel and the ride to town and the ski lifts takes less than 10 minutes.
From 4-7pm every day you can enjoy the sauna and an amazing meal upstairs on the 1st floor - with Covid restrictions currently you do need to be back in your rooms / leave the dining area at 10pm, however the staff made sure you had everything you needed well before the 10pm curfew. There’s also an amazing breakfast buffet from 7:30-10am each morning with the best eggs we all had truly ever eaten (thanks chef Peter).
I could not recommend this hotel more for both friends trips, family trips and couples trips — I can’t wait to come back here and enjoy St Anton in non Covid times.
Special thank you to Sandra for her kindness and amazing energy, as well as Phillip who was the best host I’ve ever had during a hotel stay.
Thanks so much again for such a great stay, I cannot wait...
Read moreWe cannot write enough words to describe how AMAZING this hotel (more like bed and breakfast / winter friend camp) is. Included is: the most delicious and hearty breakfast, a daily rotating dinner menu that is homemade and literally so good (we had schnitzel, spätzel, and pork/pasta). There is a sauna and tanning bed available to guests. Rides included to and from the train or bus station. The family is honestly the SWEETEST, NICEST, most WELCOMING family ever. Rosa Canina is family owned, and honestly feels more like a "camp." Sandra, Peter and Sandra's husband (sorry we forgot your name) feel like family now. The kitchen/dining area is open for breakfast and dinner and is great for friends and family get togethers. There is free ski storage on site and near the mountain at the Jennewen. We spent December 28 - January 4 here, and the town was perfect for the holiday. Although COVID prevented a party/party night - we made a party in the streets. Our group was traveling from the US and UK - there were definitely not any other Americans. We HIGHLY recommend the Rosa Canina - we...
