Paradies-Camping Wolfgangsee Birkenstrand — Hotel in Sankt Gilgen

We stayed at a campsite Paradies-Camping Wolfgangsee Birkenstrand on the lake shore, Friday 5th of July for 3 days. This is the second campsite from the main road. We got there from Salzburg by bus 150, it runs every 20 minutes, there is a schedule at the stop, the ticket price is 8 Euro, we got off at the St. Gilgen Schwand stop. The woman at the reception was very kind and patiently explained everything to us, although we did not know German and spoke English with difficulty. We paid 41 Euro for 1 day and night: for 2 people with a small tent, for three nights it came out to 123 Euro. The price is good, we were satisfied. We were given passwords for Wi-Fi: a separate password for each person. And they gave cards for using the shower - for 7 minutes a day: in the shower cabins there are scanners to which you put the card to turn on the hot water and the screen counts down the minutes. Showers and toilets are clean, there is always paper, there is a hair dryer. There are also sinks with warm water nearby. On the camping site there is a kitchen with a stove where you can cook food, an electric kettle, pots and pans, a refrigerator, lockers with a code - you can leave your phone charging in them. Unfortunately, there were no forks, spoons, plates and cups, and they would have been very useful. There is a room with washing machines, dryers, an iron and an ironing board. Everywhere is very clean. The camping was quiet, calm, although it was crowded - most people were resting in campers, there were only 3 tents. The camping has access to the lake, the water was warm and very clear. The water is knee-deep near the shore and you need to walk a long way for the water to reach your shoulders, so even small children swam far from the shore. There are a lot of camping sites along the lake shore, all close to each other. We really liked this particular camping site where we stayed. A large campsite with some pitches lakeside. Our pitch was across the road and was a reasonable size but units were crammed in. Our pitch was a bit noisy as we were close to the road. The reception area served pizza to take away and had some supplies. We had booked ahead as we thought that it would be busy in May. It was due to German school holidays. We were given key cards to access the facilities with a 7 minute allowance for a daily shower each. You are allowed 4 watts of electricity per day and this can be monitored through the campsite app. Note that unused shower time and electricity can be carried over to the next day. No refund if still in credit on checking out. The facilities were very clean. Washing machine takes 50 cent coins and costs 5 euros. The spin was poor so you needed a nice day to dry the washing or spend a lot on the tumble dryer. Free wifi. Although the website mentions card payment they only wanted cash payment. The lake is beautiful and good for paddle boarding, swimming and kayaking. There is a bus to Salzburg the stop is 5 -10 minutes walk from the campsite. Sehr gepflegter, durch eine Straße geteilter Campingplatz mit leider nur ganz wenigen Uferstellplätzen (8 Parzellen), von wo man auf den Wolfgangsee blicken kann. Einige, mit der Bezeichnung „XL-Komfortstellplatz“ bezeichnete Parzellen (zweitteuerste Kategorie) befinden sich mitten im Gelände, teilweise sogar in der Nähe der Platzeinfahrt, also sehr weit vom Wasser entfernt. Ein Lageplan des Campingplatzes ist auf der Webseite leider nicht zu finden, sondern erst nach einigem Stöbern im Internet auf einer anderen Seite. Die Sanitärgebäude sind sehr modern und sauber, auch das Duschsystem mit den Chipkarten (7 Minuten/Person/Tag) ist ok und macht Sinn.

Das WLAN am Platz hat zwar ausgezeichnete Qualität, jedoch wurde nicht darüber informiert, dass das Login nur für 1 Garät (!) gilt. Wenn man sich einmal mit den Handy eingeloggt hat, ist kein weiterer Zugang, zB mit Tablet, Laptop oder e-reader möglich, auch wenn man das WLAN am Handy deaktiviert. Einen weiteren Zugang darf man käuflich erwerben.

Strom wird nach Verbrauch abgerechnet, wobei die kWh mit 0,75 € relativ teuer verrechnet wird. In heißen Monaten, wo man vielleicht auch auf den Betrieb der Klimaanlage angewiesen ist, kann das schnell sehr kostspielig werden.

Kreditkartenzahlungen werden mit 3% Aufschlag berechnet, was uns bisher noch auf keinem anderen CP untergekommen ist. Auf die Möglichkeit, den Rechnungsbetrag zu überweisen, wurde bei uns nicht hingewiesen. Es ist jedenfalls empfehlenswert, die Rechnung sofort nach dem Auschecken genau zu kontrollieren. Bei uns wurde anstatt dem in der gültigen Katalog-Preisliste 2020 (ausgefolgt beim Einchecken) angegebenen Preis „XL-Komfortstellplatz, Nebensaison“ von 7,75 € pro Nacht ein Tarif von 9,20 € verrechnet. Mir ist das erst bei einer zufälligen Kontrolle zuhause aufgefallen. Bei der telefonischen Reklamation erhielt ich die Auskunft, dass dieser Tarif im „System“ so vorgegeben sei und der im gültigen 2020-Jahresprospekt (was eigentlich verbindlich ist!) angegebene Preis falsch sei. Der Differenzbetrag wurde jedoch zurück überwiesen. Ich möchte mir nicht vorstellen, wie viele Gäste da schon unbemerkt zu viel bezahlt haben, falls diese Praxis auch schon in der Vorsaison angewendet worden war !!! Update vor Abgabe der Rezension: auf der Webseite sind die Nebensaison-Preise für die Stellplatzkategorien alle höher, als in der Broschüre angeführt. Diese Preise dürften vermutlich nach Drucklegung (vielleicht auch Covid-bedingt) erhöht worden sein! Eine Information darüber beim Einchecken wurde nicht gegeben.

Auf Grund der Corona-Situation wurden Besucher am Platz nicht erlaubt. Nach meinen Informationen wird das auch weiterhin so bleiben, um die Personenanzahl am Platz nur auf Campinggäste zu beschränken. Ich finde das sehr schade, da man zB bei einem längeren Aufenthalt keinen Tagesbesuch von Familienangehörigen oder Freunden empfangen darf. Für weit anreisende Camper ist das natürlich kein Kriterium.

Die Einhaltung der Platzregeln werden von den Betreibern teilweise sehr unwirsch eingefordert.
