We (husband and I) had a 4 night stay in Diamond Hotel arranged by our tour agent. I see some very extreme reviews abt this hotel and thought I should give some factual details basis our own experience
Room was fine by and large. Amenities like kettle, basic toiletries, hot water, daily housekeeping, TV, all there. Be sure to carry an international adapter if you are travelling from India to charge your phones. Luckily we had.
Negative: bathroom was not mopped properly and it emitted foul smell everyday. Probably also because of the lack of ventilation as AC is off being winter season. The nightime temperature is bit too hot and uncomfortable. We were told being winter season AC is off and thats how all hotels in Baku are!!
The staff only few of them know english and then too its difficult to make then understand. For eg we ordered lentil soup from their rooms ervice menu but they just didnt understand what was lentil soup and said it is not on their menu!
Hotel does not have on call doctor and neither will they help for same. We were asked to dial 103 from our phone which is actually for emergency ambulance. They didnt even want to help or ask what was the issue. Be prepared for this cold attitude
Food is decent though sometimes their own staff dont know what are the dishes in breakfast buffet esp in english. Coffee was cold and you need to ensure to ask them for hot black coffee to be served same.
And now comes the killer. We asked if credit cards are accepted for payment and were told yes. While checking out we had to clear the food bill and the person at desk gave us an inflated higher amount. Luckily I was carrying the food bill receipts and I showed her and then she told us correct amount. Then when we gave our card she said she said for card payment we charge 18% extra!!! I have never heard of such a high commission anywhere in the world. At the most it is 3 -5%. She said it is their hotel policy. Luckily our bill was not high and we had cash. So we settled in cash.
I dont know if this kind of service is meted out to Indian tourists only because other locals and europeans seem to have given good reviews.
Hope the hitel senior.management reads this review and takes steps else this hotel will certainly not be used by...
Read moreI recently stayed at this hotel during my trip to Baku, and overall, it was a decent experience with a few pros and cons. ||Location |The location is a bit far from the city center. It takes about 30 minutes to get to Nizami Street via taxi, where all the action happens. If you’re only staying in Baku for a couple of days, I’d recommend booking a hotel closer to Nizami Street or Fountain Square for convenience. However, if you’re okay with public transportation, this place is fine. There’s a bus stop right outside, so getting around like a local is easy. Behind the hotel, there are several restaurants and even a small supermarket. We tried a local cafeteria nearby, and the homecooked food was delicious! ||Cleanliness and Room Condition |The rooms were clean and well-maintained, with housekeeping tidying up and making the beds daily. The beds were comfortable, which was a big plus. My only complaint was the smell of cigarette smoke in the corridors, even though all the rooms on our floor were supposed to be non-smoking. ||Amenities|The Wi-Fi was reliable throughout the hotel, including in the room, lobby, and the restaurant where we had breakfast. Speaking of breakfast—it was okay, but nothing special. The menu didn’t change much, so I’d skip adding breakfast to your booking if you’re staying for more than a couple of days. ||Service and Staff|The staff were the highlight of my stay and deserve all the praise! They spoke English and went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. Ali, who worked during breakfast, was incredibly attentive and even brought me tea with lemon when he noticed I was sick. Orkhan from Concierge and Zaur at the Front Desk were amazing. They helped me recover my tripod, which I accidentally left in a van. I couldn’t speak because I was unwell, but they handled everything, contacted the driver, and ensured I got it back. Orkhan even helped with my luggage and brought me tea. The kindness and attentiveness of the staff were unforgettable. ||Value for Money |For the price, it was fine, but I think you can find cheaper hotels closer to the city center that offer a similar experience. If location isn’t a big issue for you, it’s a...
Read moreThe hotel itself was luxurious and very clean. I mean OMG! I couldnt believe that it was a 3 star hotel, it looked i was in a 5 star hotel with gigantic rooms and hallways designed beautifully. The service was top of the town and the receptionist were really kind and helpful. The variety of breakfast was vast and delicious. The location wasnt that good but so were the other hotels as Baku is a developing country and yet more shops are to open. I think i might as well state one thing out that I noticed some paranormal activity. And not only me but also my friends had this weird vibe of someone constantly watching them. F it, even the other guests were aware of something weird going on. One time i was in the hallway alone waiting for my friend to grab his coat, as i said the hallways were huge and usually empty, (all lights were sensored too) so at a distance ( im talking 25 feet) the light suddenly lit up at the area and it was only that area lit up, i couldnt see anyone passing through or anyone standing but it remained lit up till my friend came back and i moved away from that area asap. Secondly, me and my friends everyday during our stay had scary dreams where they would literally everyday wake up around 3 to 4ish. I mean legit everyday ( 6 days ). Now im not sure whether it was something paranormal or it was just us but felt like pointing it out. The hotel was...
