Arrival & Reception Let me begin with our arrival experience. The reception was not welcoming at all. The lights were switched off and there was no air conditioning. At first, it felt like a load-shedding situation, but later I realized it was probably a cost-saving measure. Still, this created a very poor first impression. There was no proper welcome and no drinks were offered upon arrival.
Lobby The reception and lobby area were quite uncomfortable, especially for female guests. There were no female staff members at the reception, which is unusual compared to other hotels. All the reception and lobby staff were male, and they were constantly staring at us until we went to our room. This felt very unprofessional and uncomfortable for both me and my wife. The management needs to take this issue very seriously.
Room The room was acceptable but had no soundproofing. Amenities were basic—no slippers or bathrobes were provided. Cleaning was average and could be improved. Initially, we were given a very dirty room on the 6th floor, which seemed unused for a long time. After complaining, the staff changed our room to one at the front side, which was better.
Restaurant The complimentary breakfast was disappointing. While the restaurant ambiance was decent, the interior looked old, and the buffet counter and kitchen equipment were outdated. Some food appeared to be from the previous night, smelled bad, and we had to complain immediately to the supervisor.
We also noticed staff members helping themselves to food in the guest dining area. Some were even filling large bottles of juice from the buffet counter. When items ran out, they were not refilled. At the live cooking station, one staff member was openly eating cheese slices while watching TV instead of serving guests.
Swimming Pool The swimming pool was average. The water was not clear, and the walls were dirty with algae. Entry was charged at 300 + VAT per person, which is expensive, especially since most hotels offer free pool access for guests.
Other Observations During my two-week stay, I never saw any senior manager checking on guest comfort or overall operations. Service was generally poor across all departments, even though a service charge was included in the bill. Many of the staff seemed old and not from a hotel background.
For the Management
Lack of professional, not service-minded.
No female staff in reception or restaurant.
Some staff behavior was unprofessional and unacceptable.
One restaurant supervisor was particularly rude, but with a white beard was excellent—unfortunately, he was assigned to the night shift.
Overall Experience My stay at the hotel was fine but far from excellent. The management needs to make serious improvements in professionalism, service quality, cleanliness, and...

City Inn Limited is one of the more prominent hotels in Khulna city, located conveniently along KDA Avenue. It caters to both business and leisure travelers, offering a mix of modern facilities and traditional hospitality. While the hotel has a lot to offer, the overall experience can vary depending on expectations.
The location is undoubtedly a major advantage—it’s close to major transport points like the railway station and local markets. Getting around the city from here is fairly easy. The hotel also has a good range of amenities including a rooftop swimming pool, a gym, banquet halls, and an on-site restaurant serving a variety of cuisines.
Rooms are generally spacious and equipped with essentials like air conditioning, a mini-fridge, complimentary water, and hot water facilities. Most guests find the rooms comfortable, though a few report signs of aging in the furniture or bed linens. Cleanliness is acceptable for the most part, though not always consistent—some rooms may feel slightly neglected if not recently prepared.
Staff behavior is usually courteous and helpful. The front desk speaks English and tries to assist promptly, especially with check-in and transport arrangements. However, a few guests have faced communication gaps or slow responses from housekeeping or restaurant staff. There are occasional reports of overenthusiastic porter services, where guests felt pressured to tip or uncomfortable with uninvited room entries.
Dining at the hotel is a strong point. The restaurant is known for its flavorful local dishes, and the breakfast spread, though not extravagant, is satisfying. Items like Chicken Jafroji and garlic naan have received praise. However, it's worth confirming what’s included in your booking, as some guests have encountered confusion over meal packages or extra charges.
The rooftop pool and jacuzzi are attractive features, especially for those seeking some relaxation after a day out. However, these facilities are not always complimentary and may require additional payment, which some guests weren’t made aware of upfront. Cleanliness and maintenance of the pool area can also be hit or miss.
In summary, City Inn Limited offers decent comfort and convenience for those staying in Khulna. It’s not a luxury experience, but it provides enough amenities to satisfy most travelers. With a bit more attention to consistency in service and maintenance, it could become a standout hotel...
Read moreStayed here for three nights in mid-February. A friend and I were in two separate rooms. City Inn turned out to be a lot better than I had expected it to be after reading the reviews. It didn't help that before we arrived here, there was some confusion regarding our booking confirmation through Agoda. Considering the difficulty in talking to someone on the phone beforehand, our check-in was actually quite smooth. Our rooms were huge, with two double-beds in each room, and plenty of space to spare. However, there was no electric kettle, and the bathrooms had just tubs (no showering area). One of our rooms also had a weird design, with a fat pillar bang in the centre. The hotel also didn't provide mosquito repellent vaporisers (e.g., All Out, Good Knight), despite the crazy mosquito infestation in Khulna. They did provide sprays, but they are not as effective. Service-wise, there were no notable red flags. There was some drainage work going on next to the hotel, because of which a lot of dirty water had flown onto the road. It took the hotel a couple of days to realize that they should place bricks/planks to make entry and exit easier for guests. The hotel's location, on one of the arterial roads, is convenient for moving around. It's also a short rickshaw-ride away from the river bank. Probably the least enjoyable aspect of my stay was the restaurant food. My friend's young nephew and niece were visiting us the first evening, and we took them to the restaurant for some Chinese food. The dishes were terrible, to say the least (I mean, there were fistfuls of cashew in the chow mein and the fried rice!). Even the breakfast was just about OK. After the initial bad experience, we made it a point to have lunch and dinner outside no matter how tired we were. Thankfully, very close to the hotel, there's this area with loads of food carts serving a range of dishes in the evening. Strongly advise trying that out. Khulna doesn't really have too many good options for staying, so I would say City Inn served the purpose well enough. The rooms are reasonably clean and not particularly noisy. The service is decent. Just remember to carry a strong mosquito...
