Stayed in a large apartment, plenty of room, large dining-living area 1.5 baths, tiny kitchen with microwave, refrigerator, and water heater. Considering $ exchange rate, an excellent value. However, first apartment had no heat (central city heat had been turned off by mid May). For an apartment with heat, we had to upgrade (+20%). This apartment had a built in heater in the living area and a portable heater to carry from room to room. The apartment was poorly lit with tiny bulbs in all fixtures. The double bed was comfortable, but had two envelope blankets - not so good for sleeping close. The internet was terrible!. The connection failed very 5-10 minutes, so it was impossible to do any serious work on the internet. Simple purchase of two local rail tickets took more that 45 minutes due to multiple internet failures||The lobby was cold, dark, and damp, due to lack of heat and absence of lighting. Reception lady had to wear a coat. Other public areas - bar, restaurant, hallways - were cold and poorly lighted, apparently to save electricity.||This may be the best hotel in Vitebsk, but it could be improved. Turning on the heat and lights in the public areas would...
Read moreVitebsk is a delightful city well worth visiting. The Luchesa has good rooms and awful rooms. We asked for a king bedded room and got a room sized for a king. The furniture was old but in good condition and clean. The bed was not great but not bad.||||We walked into a large, fully furnished living room dining room. The sole air conditioner was in there. To the right the large bedroom took quite a while to cool down but a 90 degree day had put it to the test. The master bath was nice, nothing special.||||On to left was a second bath, kitchenette and nice size well furnished office. On balance the rooms were just there, nothing special. The heavy 60ish overstuffed furniture was dark and unexciting.||||Now the staff was very helpful. Had to come up and show me how to turn on the air conditioner.||||Breakfast was also okay, again nothing special but not bad.||||Our guide had a room down the hall. Rail cars have bigger bedrooms. Hers had no air conditioner. YUCK. So things vary.||||There was a special restaurant on the top floor. We went up for an early dinner but it was hotter than a sauna so we...
Read moreAn old-style hotel reminding the Sovjet Era. Very dark reception as well as corridors. But the room was nice, with an old-fashioned lamp and a, not-working, radio turner in the wall! But it didn’t bother me as the Internet connection was good. The elevators could be at a certain floor and one of them went down to the reception area when calling. Three, or perhaps four small persons, could go in to the lift. When going up, the other guests had to call for a new lift. Then came one more and the other lifts didn’t move. So, it could take a long time for all the guests at the reception area to come to their rooms. The Internet worked well and was free. The breakfast at the 12th floor with a beautiful view over the town, was very good. At the ground-floor you find a bar. A very kind woman there tried to do everything to help the guest. The staff were kind but unfortunately a little bit weak in English. To recommend?...
