We were here with a group trip. We arrived a couple of days early before the rest of the group.
They picked us up from the airport, a 90-minute trip. I thought it was a great touch! More on that later. The driver was nice enough, but be warned, speed limits, no passing on double yellow lines...are suggested apparently. It was a little nerve wracking, but we made it.
We arrived Oct. 29th and it was incredibly hot and humid. The office staff was very friendly to start. Very accommodating walking us to our room and helping with luggage.
We were asked about renting a golf cart for our stay, and was just shocked at the expense. $30 an hour or $70 a day! More on that later. You do need some transportation, and we did end up renting a cart for 3 days and one hour.
We were given two complimentary Welcome drinks. Coupons and headed to the pool after 16 hours of total travel time to get there and being awake for over 24 hours. We turned in pretty early.
When we turned in for the night, our AC units didn't work. We slept with the windows opens and were hit with a massive lightning and thunder storm. It was raining so hard, we got soaked in our bed.
Maintenance attempted to fix the AC units the next day. There was one in the living room and one over half the bed. It seemed like the AC were fixed, and we were once again looking to some sound sleep that we haven't had going on two days.
That 2nd night, I couldn't get warm enough. I was so tired, it took a minute, but I realized my side of the bed was soaking wet. Not a little bit, but a lot. The single sheet and very light blanket was also soaked. I had to move out to the couch. They don't supply you with extra blankets. For the 3rd day in a row, I essentially hadn't slept.
The next morning they changed the sheets. Later that afternoon, I noticed the AC unit above the bed was literally raining on my side of the bed when it was on.
They had to repair the AC again and not only change the sheets, but the mattress as well. After this, the ACs worked, but wouldn't shut off. I ended up using the circuit breaker in the electrical panel to turn the units off and on.
Embers restaurant looks good. It is not inexpensive, and the vibe would be a nice meal. I would give the ambiance 5-Stars. The staff is pretty great, but the only thing they are OK at cooking is pizza and fish. Don't bother trying to eat beef here. Chicken is average. Breakfast is ok, but serving sizes are small and 'extras,' like bacon, toast, and hash browns are ala-cart. If you get a "complimentary breakfast," as we did, that means a two egg omelet, or 3 pretty small, but tasty pancakes. The ala-cart menu items are also very small proportions. In short, you complimentary breakfast will cost you more here than in the states with significantly smaller proportions.
The bar staff if friendly. However, the pours are resort friendly. You'll get one ounce of alcohol. Cocktails in the states are normally at least two ounces. Again, the prices are just like any where in California.
We decided to rent a golf cart for an hour to go into town the village and get our own booze and groceries. Our apartment had a fully stocked kitchen.
Day 4, after our group had arrived, and I was finally able to get some good sleep, we rented a cart for 3 days to eat at restaurants in town that are much better and cheaper.
The day before check-out, we started getting terrible vibes from staff, like they were worried we were going to skip out on closing tab. We charged a few cocktails when we were out with our group to our room and our "complimentary breakfasts." Nothing really outrageous.
When we closed out, they charged us $200 USD for the ride to get there. We had no idea that was coming. The day before we checked out, we found out we could have rented the golf cart for $250 for the week! The resort rents them from the same place that is a 5 minute walk away, and then charge you double.
Our closing bill was $750 USD. High on ambiance,...
Read moreSeiri Del Mar is a beautiful resort right on the beach. We stayed in a two bedroom that looks brand new construction and was very clean. The covered balcony with a table and chairs so you could eat your meals overlooking the ocean.
The unit had a full kitchen, including a dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, blender, measuring cups, pots and pans, etc. everything you might need to make a nice meal. The beds and pillows were comfortable. Each room had its own AC unit to customize the temperature to your preference. The showers were huge and luxurious. Great water pressure and temperature. Washer and dryer in unit with laundry soap provided. Security at the entrance at night time. They truly thought of it all!
The pool was very nice with a swim up bar, where Kyle, the bartender, made amazing drinks for reasonable prices. There is a separate shallow pool and a hot tub (that they keep very hot at night time). They own the rest of the beach up to the peninsula so you can walk along it freely. There is a separate area down the beach with a bunch of hammocks to lay in and a yoga platform. They have 2 fishing polls at the pool bar you can use to fish off the beach or the large dock and barbecue to cook your catch. They also have complementary bikes and kayaks you can use.
Ratka at the front desk is a wonderful manager. She helped us book massages on the dock (which were great!), a bioluminescence tour (the moon was a bit too bright when we went, but we still saw the glow from a stick we moved through the water, fish and many large jellyfish), and a snorkeling trip (be sure to do this; only a 25 minute boat ride to the barrier reef). She had great recommendations for restaurants in town. She was very responsive on WhatsApp when we had questions. There is so much attention to even small details here. In our travels across Belize for 3 weeks, this is the best place we’ve stayed at by far....
Read moreOk so #1 important thing to know...this is the PERFECT location if you want to RELAX! Do not come to these villas or Hopkins City in general thinking you're about to party it up. This is a low volume, high end set of villas with free bicycles to get around, free kayaks to enjoy, and easy arrangements for a massage on the beach or at your villa. Villas come with full kitchens and plenty of space. The Fiwe Mart is not far and has everything you need to get groceries and cook your own food. The kitchen was fully stocked with all of the dishes and cookware needed. I had a rental car which was such a good choice for exploring the area and getting to and from excursions. Excursions were awesome (ATV with waterfall stop, and horseback riding). The resort is still expanding and hopes to have a restaurant on site by the end of the year. Other restaurants are walking distance and pretty good. This resort is 2 hours from BZE so you may want to try to get a closer airport but the drive wasnt bad. No traffic to or from. The worst part of this trip was the airport on the way home. Get there at least 2 hours early (which I did) and needed every minute of that 2 hours for check in, customs, security, and food. I would definitely go back. The massages were devine. Kyle at the bar made amazing drinks. The pool was perfect. Customer service was top notch!...
