My husband & I had the pleasure of staying at Coco Reef for our anniversary trip. We had an ocean front room which was recently upgraded, bright, airy and very clean. The cleaning lady was amazing, every night after a long day of exploring, our room was cleaned, we had fresh towels, the bed was made, trash cans were emptied & the floors were swept & mopped. She was very pleasant & always had a smile. The front desk was very helpful when needed. The grounds are beautiful & the private beach was amazing, it was so relaxing and at times felt as though we had the beach to ourselves. We grabbed a coffee & croissants to go one morning and ate it on the deck with the beautiful view of the ocean and sound of the waves before we headed out to explore the island some more and it was delicious & the coffee was excellent. Our 1st night we waited for the bus over an hour (the bus stop is a short walk up the hill from the hotel) the bus never came that night so we were stuck ordering dinner from our room through "four star" it's like an Uber Eats since most places were already closed. The next day we decided if we wanted to explore the island we needed to rent a scooter. Elbow Beach Scooter rentals is a 14min walk from the hotel and it was the best decision we made, we were able to drive around the whole island and check off all of our To-Do list & more! ||There is a Mini-Mart a short walk from the hotel where you can stock up on snacks, waters etc. (warning the prices may shock you) $9 for a loaf of bread $12 for cheese ||The Paraquet restaurant is few min down the road from the hotel. We had breakfast but weren't too pleased. It was just ok. If you want a decent breakfast for better price go to The Specialty Inn it's about a 9min drive from the hotel much better food and prices. ||Ice Queen Restaurant is about a 4min drive from the hotel, as you will notice food in Bermuda is EXPENSIVE this place is as close to reasonably priced as possible (Cash Only) this is like the Bermudians "fast food spot" you can get burgers, fries, mozz sticks, ice cream you name it! and the good thing is their open until 4AM. We didn't skip a beat for the late night snacks here which were tasty. ||Devils Isle Restaurant is about a 13min drive from the hotel this was the absolute best breakfast we had. Amazing specialty coffees, and delicious food! ||Beaches - Horseshoe Bay although beautiful was crowded and not our cup of tea, besides Elbow beach, our favorite beach was Tobacco Bay Beach its about a 35min drive from hotel but it's beautiful! crystal clear calm waters, great for snorkeling and beautiful views.||Sea Glass Beach is a 31min drive from hotel, a must see where you'll find thousands of sea glass washed up on the shore creating a beautiful mosaic little piece of paradise.||Blue Hole Park - 25min drive from hotel, we hiked for about 30min we found caves filled with crystal clear water on the way and when we finally arrived at the blue hole it was breath taking, so worth it. We jumped in one of our highlights! ||Crystal & Fantasy Caves about a 23min drive from hotel is something to see, it's a bit touristy but if you get there early, you avoid most of the crowds. Our tour guides were great and informative and so many beautiful photos to take.||Gibbs Hill Lighthouse - 14min drive from hotel beautiful lighthouse with amazing views must see||You must have a Wahoo Fish sandwich just like the locals have it, Wahoo fish, coleslaw, hot sauce, tarter sauce & cheese on raisin bread it is out of this world bursting with flavors, we went to Woody's about a 39min drive from hotel in Somerset Village to try one of the best places to get the wahoo fish sandwich on the island, and it sure was!||These are just some highlights of our trip, we saw and explored so much more! ||Overall our stay at Coco Reef was Wonderful! This is one picture perfect trip we will...
Read moreMy husband and I spent 5 nights at Coco Reef & Resort at the end of August. Before arriving, I had read some mixed reviews. Now I understand why some guests were disappointed. For us, the overall experience was a good one. I’d go back, but I would hesitate to recommend it highly.||The beach is beautiful. Coco Reef benefits from the much larger hotel next door (the old Elbow Beach Hotel) being closed. You have a large stretch of beach to relax, swim, and walk along.||The staff was wonderful—hard-working, kind, and helpful. Our room was one of the nicely redecorated ones with a beautiful view. The bed was very comfortable. The AC was very loud but worked in my favor, as it drowned out my husband’s snoring. ||Some negative aspects we experienced include a huge leak from the overhead AC upon entering. The front desk sent someone to repair it right away and eventually comped us dinner for the inconvenience. However, messages were not relayed to the main manager, and the dinner was reflected on our bill at checkout. This was cleared up within a few minutes but was an example of communication errors.||Since the beach is the best aspect of the hotel, they could improve the guest experience there. Every single day, they ran out of towels, and it was inconvenient to have to go all the way to the lobby to fetch them. They lock the towels in a back office, and you have to wait until the front desk is available to help you. An easy fix would be to order more towels and place them in guest rooms or near the entryway to the beach or pool. As a beachfront hotel, this is a basic standard you must meet, or you will frustrate guests. Additionally, there was no staff presence on the beach—no one offering water, cleaning up bird droppings on lounge chairs, or replacing knocked-over umbrellas.||The hotel is not for someone looking for nightlife. We were told by the bartender that the bar closes at 10 p.m. On our last night, we wanted a nightcap after returning from dinner. It was 9:45 p.m., and the same bartender told us it was shut down, which was annoying as we really wanted to sit on the terrace and enjoy one last drink on our vacation.||The hotel could also upgrade its dining/food services. The atmosphere lacks liveliness. Guests would benefit from an area that sells sodas and snacks for the beach. I’d suggest packing lots of snacks or going to the supermarket, which is about ten minutes away. They provide two small water bottles for free on first day only. There is a mini fridge which was useful. ||A minor note: our bathroom provided shampoo but no conditioner, and the plastic containers were unlabeled and cumbersome.||Coco Reef has many positive features and I hope they improve some issues to make it an outstanding spot to...
Read moreThis review is for those considering a day pass... I booked a day pass for $110 with high hopes, but was sadly disappointed. I could not believe it, but it's true that you can't even use the hotel towels for that price... The place was pretty with a lot of statues, but it was very dated and a bit run down, in desperate need of updates/renovations. The beach was nice, but the stairs to go down were old and worn and sometimes crooked. There were also areas of the beach where you could see broken concrete. The beach loungers were supportive, but again, some were broken. I'm sure this place was beautiful when they first opened... I assumed I would not encounter food issues as other reviewers had since I was not subject to a time constraint. Unfortunately, I was wrong... the free 2 course lunch that comes with the day pass is the bare minimum. First of all they have 2 different menus. If you're visiting with a day pass, they won't even let you see the other menu, not even to order food and pay for it. The day pass menu is so basic, consisting mostly of sandwiches (that don't mention fries or sides of any sort). I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was literally only seasoned with salt. They did not include the vegetable it was supposed to come with or even tartar sauce... just fish & chips, literally... we ordered the sherbet for dessert that was supposed to come with cream and fruit.. we never even saw dessert & of course the restaurant conveniently closed once we received our orders. Other customers who were staying at the hotel were also dissatisfied with their food/orders... Cambridge beaches let's you use their facilities for free with spa service, willowbank, grotto bay and many other comparable resorts offer day passes for a fraction of the cost. I thought at least the food and service would justify the hefty price tag to spend the day at this resort, but it's really a...
