We arrived and they showed us our room. There was no heater, apparently it's an upgrade for a ridiculous amount , almost doubling the price of the room. The hotel had several available rooms as they showed me into all of them so I could decide. I told them that the upgrade price for a heater was ridiculous. And for what is called a 4 star hotel, heat should be included in a place where the temperature is 5 degrees Celsius or lower at night. We discussed this for several minutes, I could not cancel without paying most of the rate anyways. We did find a hotel just down the street for a fraction of the cost, similar room, with a portable heater that they were happy to put in our room free of charge. I was going to book my tours with Tupiza Tours but since they are affiliated with Mitru, not a chance. The room they gave us is a step up from staying at a hostel. If I was made aware that standard rooms were basic hostel rooms beforehand, then I could have made an informed decision. It's just disappointing to get somewhere that you expect to be quite nice for the price you pay and get basic accommodations. The person I was dealing with kept repeating it's a standard, only superior rooms have heat. I told her nowhere does it state that when booking, so how am I supposed to know? Anyways, that's why they are getting few stars. There are some pros to this place: The wifi is available in the lobby, however it's spotty and not the best, but can get emailing done or a FaceTime call. You might also get it from time to time in your room, so that was a pleasant surprise. The beds and pillows were actually quite comfortable. They gave us extra blankets when I asked. The staff is very polite and mostly friendly. The cleaning staff are lovely. The breakfast is basic if you're only eating cooked items. They had good fruit selections, but we don't take the chance as everything is washed...
Read moreThe only place to stay in Tupiza - lovely hotel with a great pool, sunny breakfast room, and really helpful and friendly staff.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, ours had a lovely outside area too. The whole place is sparkling clean.
Breakfast is a great selection and there’s complimentary tea available all day.
The pool and garden is really beautiful maintained and it was great to get back from a hike and dive in.
The staff are the five star element of the hotel - everyone is friendly and helpful (big thanks to Edgar who answered all our questions and tolerated my Spanish). There’s a good value laundry service, luggage storage, and you can use the pool after check out if your onward travel is later in the day.
There is also a tour agency connected to the hotel if you’re interested in that.
Really, don’t look anywhere else...
